Social media takes on a substantial role in the development of the ontogeny of a business unit. The social media lets the business to interact with the market relating to the launching, advertising, of product. Social media is the powerful program for passing with the customers and doing business across the globe, would be possible in an easier manner. If we consider the example of Domino's pizza, the company mostly interacts with its customer through the social media network, whether it is Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc. it has set up its feet through various marketing techniques, and changing policies and interacting with the customers through the social media.

The social media affects the customers to the extent that it can change their buying behavior. For instance, the Domino's pizza launches a new pizza and with the right advertisement, it is capable to draw the customers more and more so in less time the consumption of the product rises to a large extent.

Social media has a major impact on the development of a commercial enterprise. Through the following points we may able to conclude the advantage of utilizing social media in business:

  • Social interaction- social media is a platform where one can advertise its business activities by socially interacting with the clients. Social media allows the business to interact with the target clients and create an impact on their buying behavior as the consumer spend much of his time on the social media networks.

  • More consumers- social media let to advertise the product and so, this causes an increase in the output. For instance, there are 900 million users of Facebook, 313 million users on Twitter, and 500 million users on Instagram. Nigh, in every portion of the world, social media has been spread and the advertisement done on it, has greatly benefited the business.

  • Newmarket- social media help to catch more and more markets. Equally with the growth of uptake, one can take the opportunity to trade with more markets.

  • Facing the competition- the social media lets the businesses to compare to the rivals and competition in the marketplace. One can get the knowledge about others strategies and can tackle with them accordingly.

  • Brand Awareness- social media creates an awareness related to the brand and influence people to stick to the brand.

  • Fake products- social media allows the person mark the divergence between actual and fake product and thus increase the productivity if once the consumer is aware of the genuine product, he will buy the real product more.


With every pro there are cons too, with every advantage there is a disadvantage to a fault. The disadvantages of social media on business are listed below:

  • Time-related issues- the social media sites are time-consuming. As there is always a dynamic competition in the market, and to face this competition one has to regularly stick to these sites which consumes much time.

  • Privacy issues- the main disadvantage of using social media for business is the privacy issue. Social media network in the present day is not that strong to solve the privacy issues related to data storage, hacking etc.

  • The disadvantage to retailers- social media platform has a major disadvantage for the retailers as all the products are available online and hence the products are available at their homes and people don't want to go outside, thus from the retailer's point of view it is not efficient.

  • The disadvantage to wholesalers- just like the retailers the wholesalers also have the disadvantage of using social media platform as if consumers consume less from the market, the retailers will buy less stock from the wholesalers and the wholesalers may also have to suffer.


Thus we can conclude that everything has pros and cons if there is an advantage of something in that respect may be exceptions to and vice versa. Still, social media is a great platform which provides the business to enhance and grow more and also which leads to the development of the society and raise the standard of livelihood of the masses.
