Social media marketing (SMM)

Social media marketing  is a tool for dialogue between a social group and the subject of a company's marketing. SMM is direct work in communities that cover the target group of users. Social media platforms are a modern tool for interacting with the target audience. Today, the audience of social networks is comparable to the audience of television channels, only it is more attentive and active. 

Social media marketing  is located at the intersection of journalism, sociology, advertising, trade marketing, public relations. SMM has more in common with PR than advertising. Consumer attention can be obtained and bought through advertising. The trust of the target audience cannot be bought, it can only be earned. Social marketing is more about journalism than "blogging or posting". These are tools for direct and open or covert interaction with the target audience, rather than “dumping” on the audience what is interesting and important to the company or the writer of the posts.  

Tasks that can be solved with the help of SMM:

  • PR;

  • branding, brand promotion;

  • mass non-personal advertising with elements of social significance, in order to ensure advertising coverage;

  • trade marketing - holding promotional activities among the social community;

  • social and online support for offline marketing activities;

  • social support for online marketing activities;

  • group dialogue with a group of active consumers of adherents of the company's marketing subject;

  • social dialogue with an audience interested in solving problems and discussing tasks, problems and prospects that are close to the subject of the subject of marketing;

  • social promotion - popularization of the social value of the company's marketing subject and the company itself;

  • cross-promotion with non-competitive companies and brands within their common social target group; 

  • verification of the views and aspirations of the social community with the plans and strategy of the brand and the company;

  • increase in traffic to the company's Internet resources.

SMM  is still one of the tools of non-standard marketing interaction, but today it is the most promising. Social media marketing is in   demand both by large companies, market leaders, and by small and medium-sized businesses that use SMM for their own promotion and establishing contact with their consumers. 

SMM does not have an immediate effect, but gives a long-term result, subject to targeted and proper use. Its main advantage is the low cost of investments compared to the possible effect of the activities carried out.

Traditional  social media marketing tools :

  • group dialogue - creating, designing, filling with materials (keeping) a blog;

  • social dialogue - information messages in thematic communities, support for discussions, answers to questions and comments;

  • trade marketing - holding promotional activities among the social community;

  • hidden marketing - work on popular thematic sites: launching and supporting discussions in the format of an agent of influence;

  • direct marketing - conducting a dialogue on behalf of the company;

  • direct advertising in thematic communities and on the pages of popular bloggers;

  • viral marketing;

  • monitoring of positive and negative information. Creation of a positive informational background;

  • optimization of the company's Internet resources for social media (SMO).

Social media marketing  implies the mandatory optimization of the site and bringing it into line with the main criteria of  SMO  -  Social Media Optimization , since this is a tool with which members of the social community - the target audience are attracted to the site from social networks, communities, blogs, diaries and forums.
