Social Media Hacks for Your Wedding Photography Business

by zyla courtney i am a bloger

When it comes to running any business, it’s important to know as much about social media as you can. From graphic designers to ecommerce fashionistas to lawyers like Aaron Kelly, success is far more likely when they’ve got a great website, blog, and a social media presence that can be followed by all their potential customers. As a business leader running your own wedding photography business, this is especially true: brides are always online before their wedding, checking out bridesmaid dress options on sites like Instagram and Pinterest and tweeting to makeup experts to ask about trending looks.

Even if you’ve already got some social media hacks up your sleeve, it’s never too late to learn more. From algorithm changes on popular platforms like Facebook to upping engagement on Instagram, here are some social media hacks that are guaranteed to work for you:

1 Pack your social media accounts with blog posts

As a wedding photographer, you’re lucky in that you’ve already got many images you can populate your social media accounts with. Especially on Instagram and Snapchat, you can share pictures of your happy clients, and show off the aesthetic of your pictures. But another important strategy for getting more clients is by sharing your company’s blog posts on social media platforms like Facebook. In addition to giving you better SEO, your clients will trust you even more if you’re posting articles about how to find the perfect wedding photographer and how to save money on catering on their big day.

According to HubSpot, 53 percent of marketers have made blogging their top priority, which means that you should not only be sharing on social media but also posting on your blog at least three times a week.

2 Create a schedule for each platform

According to SproutSocial, “Sending out one tweet per day just isn’t going to cut it. Certain platforms like Instagram and Snapchat don’t necessarily move as fast as Twitter or Facebook. This means you don’t have to publish as often. But you should still develop a routine posting schedule and be consistent.” The fact is, each of these platforms works slightly differently, and if you can’t afford to hire a social media strategist, then understanding the intricate rules of each one is something you’ll have to research yourself. For example, did you know that 92 percent of companies tweet more than twice a day?

If you aren’t sure where to get started, don’t worry; there are plenty of great resources out there. For example, Hootsuite’s got seven social media templates to save you work, including an editorial calendar template. And don’t forget that, because you’re in the wedding industry, you need to be especially active during wedding season!

3 Don’t forget to engage

We know that you’re posting amazing pictures on your Instagram, of bouquets, happy brides, and cute pooches at dog-friendly weddings, but you aren’t going to get anywhere if you aren’t constantly engaging on social media, too. In fact, 64 percent of marketers have said that audience engagement is a huge part of their social media strategy, so it should be essential to yours, too.

According to Small Business, your strategy should be “reacting to conversation and engaging with influencers is essential if you are to make your mark. Share, retweet, and comment on posts that are relevant to your brand, join groups and follow the key players in your industry. It’s helpful to monitor what they are talking about on social media and think about how you can get involved in the chat – whether it’s offering an opinion or striking up a new conversation, building relationships with influencers can open doors to potential new customers.”

4 Check back in

Finally, once you’ve been working on different social media platforms for a while, it’s important to take a step back and see how you’re doing. It’s worth investing in an analytics program--or using an Instagram for Business account, where you can get insights for free--to see how well you’re doing as you amp up your social media strategy. Additionally, you need to check back in with your customer base. 65 percent of companies that have been exceeding lead and revenue goals updated personas within the last six months--so even if you think you know your audience, it’s time to check again.

By using these strategies, your wedding photography business will do better than ever. This means you’ll be making even more brides happy--and building your business, too!

What’s your favorite social media platform for business? Why?
