Simple Technique To Illuminate A Perspex Signage

by Reg Burn Plastic Fabricator
As most of us know, Acrylic is a popular brand of acrylic that can be easily heated and then moulded into desired shapes. However, it is this ability of the material to absorb heat quickly that requires one to take special precautions for illuminating Acrylic signage in Sydney. It is very important to use low-temperature lights that would not overheat a sign made out of the thermoplastic.

Presently, plastic fabrication specialists make use of cool LED lighting systems that provide sufficient illumination without any overheating issues. They utilise a very simple method for installing these lights inside Acrylic signage, which has been described below step by step in detail:

  • First, the Acrylic is made to stand on a piece of wood block and its footprint is traced with a marker or pencil. To ensure accuracy of the markings, lines are drawn around the front as well as the back of the acrylic material.

  • Next, the depth of the groove that has to be made into the wood is calculated. The depth is nearly equal to thickness of the light rope, increased by 3 inches for holding the Acrylic.

  • Now, a groove is made using a power router within the traced markings on the wood up to the depth that was calculated. Care is taken to ensure that the groove is just as broad as the markings.

  • A small hole is drilled close to one edge of the groove through the wood vertically downwards. Another small groove is then routed from the hole on the undersurface of the block in order to create an exit path for the light.

  • One end of the LED lighting rope is fed through the base of the block. It is then pulled out enough so that it lies right across the whole groove that was made on top of the block. The rope is also pushed in the groove underneath so that it may rest properly on a flat surface such as a table.

  • Finally, the Acrylic is pushed in the top groove and made to rest right on the light rope. The lighting is connected to an outlet for switching on the LEDs.

So this is basically how anything made of Acrylic is illuminated, be it signage, display cases or plinths. Besides being cool and without any heating problems, LED lights are also quite cheap and very power-efficient. Besides that, they can keep a signage lit for many years due to their durability.
