Simple Steps to follow while making Simple to Complex Decisions
by Bold Smith MarketingDecision-Making can be small, big, important, semi-important or most
vital. We constantly make and take decision all through the day. Some
decisions are easy to take and some decisions require deep
contemplation. Some of them can be easily taken by an individual but
others may require a group of people putting their heads together to
come with a good unilaterally feasible decision. Whether you are taking a
decision with a group or by yourself, here are a few simple steps to
follow while taking a decision.
Define Objective
At
first stage of decision-making lies the most important step of defining
the central objective. It is essential step that needs to bring in to
focus the whole decision-making process. Having a defined objective or
aim helps to refine the possible routes to be taken for the achievement
of the desired outcome. All kinds of Projects have to go through the
first step of defining its objective and it is often reiterated in the
Project Management Training.
Brainstorm for Ideas
At
this stage, it is important to come with as many ideas as possible. At
this stage of decision-making don’t restrict yourself with one idea or
worry about the feasibility of the idea. Just jot down all the possible
route for achieving the desired outcome or central objective of your
decision-making.
Analyze Outcome
Carefully
analyze the positive and the negative outcome of all the brainstormed
ideas. At this point of decision-making you can use your logical side of
your brain to work out all possible ideas’ feasibility. Put the various
ideas that was generated during the brainstorm session to a feasibility
test to find out how much of a risk factors are involved in selecting
that specific idea. The analyzing of the decision also forms a part of
the many topics that are covered in the Project Management Certification
exam.
Logical Selection
At this
stage of the decision-making, it is the place where the decision-taker
should look at all the analysis and data collected against the ideas to
make a logical selection of the most apt and workable decision. Select
two decisions and pick the most appealing one as the prime decision and
the next as a possible standby in case of an alternative or backup plan.
Verification of Feasibility
At
this stage a possible logical selection had been carried out and two
decisions were selected on the bases of their being able to get the
desired outcome that was initially aimed for. Most of the analysis have
been based on theory and not actual reality based testing. At this stage
it is time to bring out past market based experience and verifying for
feasibility of predicted outcome from following the specific course of a
decision. At this point, it is quite possible that decision may be in
favor of main decision or the standby decisions that was finalized as
the possible course of action. Aim for the best decision based on all
the recorded factors and analysis.
Decision Making
Once
after all the analysis, and feasibility test had been conducted, it is
time to carry out the decision by communicating to the team about the
decision. In other words, it is time for taking action based on the
logical and studied decision gathered from intense decision-making
process. A good Manager with a Project Manager Certification is well
aware of these steps for taking that timely and well-studied decision.
