by INOX Artisans Get Best Quality Dining & Kitchen Accessories

If you are trying to understand the different terms and varieties that are associated with flatware, then this article is great for you. We will talk about the distinctive weights of silverware sets that have their uses accordingly. We shall also cover a few kinds of spoons, forks, and knives that are most commonly included as part of flatware sets today.

Silverware Set

There are three main kinds of weights in flatware these days, medium, heavy, and extra heavy. The medium-weight is much lighter in comparison to the other two and the easiest one to be found. Almost every school and institutional cafeteria use this type of flatware which is also known as economy weight in the industry. This type of cutlery can bend in your hand and is popular among buyers who prefer value for money.

Heavyweight flatware is more long-lasting than its medium weight counterpart and won’t bend as easily either. More appealing in its appearance, this kind of silverware is used in many mid-level restaurants along with casual fast food places in order to provide a better presentation and experience.

The premium category of flatware comes into the extra heavyweight category because of the great level of quality and finesse that it conveys wherever it is used. For this reason, silverware sets of this category are often seen at hotels and fine dining restaurants, like Cambridge flatware. Although it feels quite heavy in the hand, it is extremely difficult to bend. It is also the sturdiest and the most durable of the three variants.

Choosing a silverware set gets simpler once you are aware of the different weights and qualities of stainless steel. But did you know how many types of spoons, forks, and knives there actually are? Each one has a unique size and shape as it has been designed for a particular food. Let’s discuss a few of these here in this article:

1. Teaspoons: This has been a part of almost all the place settings of a typical dinner table at home. It offers a wide range of uses for a lot of things like desserts, tea, coffee, soup, cereal, and more. In fact, it is the most popular kind of spoon that comes to nearly every person’s mind when a spoon is mentioned.

2. Dessert Spoons: These can be larger than teaspoons and look similar to soup spoons in terms of their size and shape, particularly the deep, oval-shaped appearance.

3. Tablespoons or Serving Spoons: This type of spoon often looks like a larger edition of the teaspoon, especially because it is almost the same shape as a teaspoon. These are most commonly utilized for serving and are kept near the larger serving bowls towards the middle of the dining table.

4.  Salad Forks: If you compare a salad fork with a traditional dinner fork, you will find that it is smaller in size and is used for eating little items like salads and cut fruit.

5.  Dinner Forks: It is generally considered as an all-purpose fork and is a part of most of the dining tables with conventional place settings. Larger than both dessert forks and salad forks, this is the fork most commonly used for consuming the main course. Different patterns are available for such forks and can range from three to four tines.

6.  Dessert Forks: Often used in the place of a salad fork as well, this fork is actually a bit smaller and slimmer than the salad fork. As the name suggests, it is used for eating many desserts like pies, cakes, tarts, and so on.

7.  Dinner Knives: A typical dinner knife has a longer blade in comparison with butter knives and a rounder tip as well. These are used for cutting meats, slightly harder vegetables, and is nearly always a part of the flatware placed on the table.
