few people have thought about the replacement for the old method of cement
surface plastering and how it has become an older method of plastering i.e.
gypsum plastering. Gypsum plaster
has become a material used for interior construction and many cement manufacturers have taken the
opportunity to make different kind of gypsum plaster. The Pyramids of Giza
located in Egypt is the oldest example where gypsum plaster can be found.
What
is Gypsum?
Gypsum
is a material that is light-weighted and formed because of the evaporation of
sea water into huge primordial basins. Calcium Sulphate Di-hydrate
(CaSO4.2H2O), is its chemical composition. It naturally contains 21 percent of
water by molecular weight. One of the basic properties of gypsum is its
excellent insulation, which is both acoustic and thermal. It has the ability to
resist moisture, it also provide fire protection.
What
is Gypsum Plaster?
When
walls are constructed with block or brick, they are completed with a coat of
plaster. This is known as internal plastering. This internal plastering is done
traditionally with a mixture of sand and cement plastering and finished with
Paris of Plaster pruning. Internal plastering goes through two stage process
and has to do with multiple elements such as cement, sand and water. This is
then mixed onsite. Well this traditional way of plastering has been down away
with by the direct application of a single coast of gypsum plaster. Gypsum plaster is produced as a result of calcinations
of the raw gypsum in an automatic kettle under regulated temperature.
