Shimla Manali Package: Unveiling the Historic Landmarks in the Himalayas

by Kevin Smith Author

The two most closely aligned destinations in Himachal Pradesh are Shimla and Manali. Chilled weather, lofty mountains, and snow-laden peaks enunciate the proximity of these hill stations. While one is fondly called “the queen of the hills”, other is construed at the best honeymoon destination in India. Either way, the landscapes never fail to captivate the interest of nature and adventure lovers. Stretched across numerous tall-standing valleys, the tell-tale behind their origination itself is exemplary. Not only does the bounty of nature haul tourists' attention but also the architecturally and epically splendid historical landmarks entice the mass audience. With the escalated number of tourists flocking the hill stations, the demand for Manali and Shimla cheap tour packages has also burgeoned.

Due to the presence of the British empire in the past, Shimla is blessed with a greater number of historical landmarks. Manali being the Himalayan resort town is more about nature and adventure sports, although it still bears the sanctity of the historical Naggar Castle. Not to be upset yet! Here is a valuable guide that will help you choose the best historical landmarks in the western Himalayas.

VICEREGAL LODGE

Built-in 1888 by an Irish-born architect, the heritage building of Viceregal was set up for the then Viceroy of India, Lord Dufferin. It is located in the summer capital of Himachal Pradesh and fascinates the history lovers due to the quality of light blue-grey stones and wooden interior. While earlier the building was brought in political use, it now houses the Indian Institute of Advanced Study. Don’t worry! tourists are not forbidden from wandering around the ground and designated rooms.

SHIMLA MAIN SQUARE

It is the place where the major summer festival of the city takes place. Built-in Elizabethan Neo-Gothic style, the cream-colored Christ Church is the main attraction in the square. More things that tourists can explore in the vicinity are state library, bandstand, town hall, scandal point, and gaiety theatre.

RAILWAY BOARD BUILDING

The railway board building was constructed in the queen valley of Himachal Pradesh in 1896 with cast iron and steel. Interestingly, the material was transported from Scotland and assembled in Bombay. The masonry was embarked upon keeping in mind the safety of its architecture from fire, which was successfully tested in 2001 when the blaze broke on the top floor. Nowadays, you will witness government offices and police department housing in the building.

LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY BUILDING

The Council Chamber or Legislative Assembly Building of Himachal Pradesh was constructed in 1925. During that time, it consisted of two houses namely Kennedy Lodge and Alloa Cottage. Post-independence, this historic building was occupied by different departments of Punjab government. But currently, the building serves as Vidhan Sabha for the legislative assembly.

NAGGAR CASTLE

The only most secluded and beautiful historical monument of medieval Manali is Naggar Castle. History portrays how king Sidh Singh used the stones of the abandoned castle of Rana Bhonsal to build his own palace. Beautifully and robustly orchestrated at the shore of Bear river, the royal castle is a treat to eyes.

For those who like to go into the depth of a place, a historical trip to Himachal Pradesh is a must. Since Shimla and Manali survived the British and royal invasion, Shimla Manali packages should be your go-to option for an exceptional tour.
