  • Eating a well-balanced diet will help improve overall health and also boost immunity

It is highly likely that the COVID-19 pandemic has had an effect on your dental care. Your scheduled routine check-ups might have been cancelled, current treatments disrupted and access to general consultation unlikely possible.

Emergency dental treatments might also be affected and thus the corona virus lock down and self-isolation have impacted all aspects of oral health maintenance.

The COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on dental care

Amid the current global health crisis that we face, dental hygiene might not be at the front of your priorities. But it takes only a small cavity to make it so.

While we face the unprecedented threat of the viral outbreak, many of us focus on isolating ourselves and our families from any gatherings to prevent contracting the virus. Ensuring sufficient stock of essentials and access to emergency services is what occupies our minds these days.

It is highly understood that right now is not the most normal of times and the world has shifted into a panic mode. But to ensure the best for ourselves and our loved ones, it is imperative to have control of things we can.

It is highly essential to prioritize personal wellness and hygiene and oral health is where it all starts. With high disruptions of non-essential dental treatments, it becomes more important than ever to practice oral health maintenance tips at home while in isolation.

Maintaining optimum dental health during COVID-19

With most of us are staying at home and accommodating new routines of work, dental health maintenance could skip from our minds.

Here are a few tips to help ensure best oral health with the least of efforts -

Brush at least two times a day- To prevent plaque, one must brush twice daily, preferably after breakfast and before sleep so as to avoid build up of bacterial in mouth. Follow a technique to reach all the spots in the mouth. It is essential for ensuring best kids dental care

Thoroughly wash your hands- WHO recommends that washing hands for at least 15-20 seconds is essential to prevent contracting the virus and this also helps to ensure oral hygiene

Drink lots of water- Drinking plenty of water is best to keep yourself hydrated, fresh and prepared to fight any infections

Use floss for effective cleaning- Those particles stuck in the teeth that brushing doesn’t remove can easily be cleaned using a floss. Try to floss your teeth after meals

Ensure optimum diet- A balanced diet with the right nutrients can help provide our body the best immunity and also give strength to fight infections. It is essential to support dental health as well

Avoid excess snacking- Snacking between meals must be avoided and if done one should rinse the mouth or clean teeth with brush and water. Too much snacking can cause cavities and it is least desired during the current times

Quit smoking- Smoking is not only bad for teeth but also can prove dangerous during the current COVID-19 pandemic as the virus could attack smokers more harmfully

Do not take sweets- Limit consumption of sweets, carbonated drinks and fruit juices that can prove harmful for tooth surfaces. The children’s dentist suggests that parents must ensure their kids are not offered too much sweets that could harm teeth

We at Brighton East Dental Clinic re adjusting to the current scenario posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and focus to offer you optimum dental health services. To minimize the risks of the virus and to ensure safe isolation, we recommend you follow the WHO guidelines and ensure oral health maintenance tips at home to keep yourself and your loved ones safe!
