by Eva Taylor Consultant
Scuba diving is perhaps one of the best and most loved adventure sports for many around the world. It requires special equipment, few accessories and a perfect Scuba Diving Suit. It is a popular activity especially for backpackers and outdoor sports enthusiasts. Most people mistake scuba diving for any other similar water sports like free diving. Scuba is technically different than others; it requires breathing apparatus that consists of air. It is carried within the waters by the divers themselves so that they can deep dive for a longer period of time.

If you are a beginner in the field, you would be much excited about this sport, as it’s inspiring and motivating to go deep into the depths of nature. You get to see natural fauna and flora and explore the territories of oceans and live the water life for a while. Scuba is relatively an easy sport as compared to any other water adventures. But, it does require a training period. In the training, the person gets accustomed to water gears and what they are going to get to see and how they should breathe through the gear.

Although for diving, one doesn’t require any official certifications, several diving schools provide certifications. The recreational diving is taught by these schools where they learn the basics and advanced levels of scuba diving. The training certificates help a person with additional qualifications for any other professional maritime official jobs. There are different types of diving that one can do while doing underwater diving.

Types of Diving

a. Recreational Diving – It’s a recreational diving that is used for leisure and fun, also popularly known as sports diving. It is open for anyone to learn and enjoy this activity. It requires circuit scuba equipment that is a necessary item for the sport.
It’s a very popular diving sports activity, most popular amongst the backpackers and also first time divers go for it. There are several standardized procedures for anyone before starting with the sport. Certifications are needed to carry out any type of diving activities.

b. Technical Diving – It’s a little-advanced version of recreational diving and hence it is one-step ahead of any other diving. It carries a much bigger risk for the diver. For doing this kind of sport, a person needs extensive training and advanced learning. It requires specialized equipment and a high number of previous dives.
This sport consists of extreme depths with good bottom times. The divers often use alternative gases to breathe as compared to standard nitrox used in other dives.

c. Scientific Diving – These are the professional divers that are implicated in the work of scientific research. Their main role is to carry out research field work underwater. They are marine scientists first and train as divers after. The research is carried out by universities that have larger development work to be taken forward in future. The diving experiences are not as in-depth as technical divers.

d. Diving for public safety – This is the diving meant for public safety and emergency services. Often conducted by the law enforcement agencies in the conditions where other divers avoid going, these places are where the water is of zero visibility and chemically polluted.

e. Professional diving – A diver paid for the activity is a professional diver. Professional divers have certain certifications and training; they have certain diving hours logged in every couple of months.

Scuba diving for beginners

Although there is no official board of certification for recreational dives, the self-regulated dive centers have strict certifications and all the divers adhere to rules and regulations. The dive centers offer different certifications and courses for diving. The recreational divers have a number of popular courses that one can undertake; they are snorkeling, scuba for juniors, and open water diving for juniors, adventure diving for juniors, advanced open water diving, rescue diving, master scuba diving and several other professional and advanced level courses.

Scuba diving equipment

Scuba diving is much more than diving itself. You require special gears that help you perform the activity with ease. The type of scuba diving you are on will decide the apparatus that you are going to require to do your activity. The equipment is required for your security hence; it includes breathing equipment, vision clarity, and mobility equipment.

The most important gear is the Scuba Diving Suits that protects you under any terrain; they are the source of protection for your body. Wearing the suit protects you from many environmental factors like change in temperature, stings, and abrasions. Different dives require different types of wetsuits to fulfill the requirements; otherwise general swimsuits won't serve the purpose.
