Savings from Cheap Flights to Goa Help You Explore More

by Amanda Sutcliffe Travel Deals

A tiny state located in the Konkan region of India's south-western coast, Goa is visited by over a million tourists every year from different parts of the world. It attracts a large number of visitors mainly owing to its sandy beaches, places of worship, historic structures listed in UNESCO's World Heritage Sites, and an exciting nightlife. Owing to its location in the biodiversity hotspot of the Western Ghats mountain range, it is also abundant in a variety of flora and fauna. During your time spent in this fascinating Indian state, you'll get to explore its charming beaches and other popular attractions.

You can book low-cost accommodations and cheap flights to Goa in its monsoon season which begins in mid-June and continues until October. Not many people visit during this season as the unexpected heavy rainfall often hampers the sightseeing plans of tourists. Winter from mid-November to mid-February is the best time to visit this part of India. However, it is a peak tourist season and you'll have to book your flights and hotel stays several months in advance. Summer makes its presence felt in Goa between March and May and is characterised by rough seas and hot and humid weather. This is also a good season to get attractive discounts on room rates of hotels and resorts.

One of the attractions that would be of interest for history buffs is Old Goa, which was the capital of this region when it was ruled by the Portuguese. This neighbourhood has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is home to many cathedrals and churches constructed during the 16th and 17th centuries. Among the most popular ones is a cathedral called Basilica of Bom Jesus. It has the remains of St Francis Xavier, who arrived at this place as a Jesuit missionary during the 16th century. This cathedral is Old Goa's largest church and is an excellent example of Renaissance architecture.

If you wish to buy some attractive stuff without spending a fortune, visit the Wednesday Flea Market located near the Anjuna beach. It is held every Wednesday and offers clothes, jewellery, handicrafts, and other items at attractive prices. You can find almost everything at one place in this daytime market spread across the coastline. Getting to Anjuna Beach and this market is quite easy from the Baga Beach as it is located just 5 kilometres away. You can either hire a scooter or use any of the public transport modes to reach this market.

While holidaying in this small Indian state, don't forget to visit Palolem Beach. This crescent-shaped beach is located in the city of Canacona in South Goa and is one of the most beautiful beaches in the state. During the low tide, you can walk across a small island located on the northern tip of this beach or trek to the Butterfly Beach located nearby. You can also find several restaurants and shacks while taking a stroll. While unwinding on this beach, you'll surely be delighted to watch the majestic waters of the Arabian Sea touching its palm-lined shores.
