Samsung launches the Chromebook 4 and 4+, two basic laptops

There are two new Chromebooks from Samsung in the last year. The Korean firm has just launched two new devices for the most basic segment whose main differences are the size of their screen and the number of USB type C ports. They respond to the name of Chromebook 4 and Chromebook 4+ and, for the moment, they remain in United States.

These come to succeed the Chromebook 3, which were released in 2017, and as their names indicate, they are ChromeOS devices. Both are quite basic, they do not have a touch screen or stylus compatibility like the latest HP, but it is something that is supplemented with a price that is around $ 300 in the case of the most powerful model. The same on the inside and very similar on the outside

As can be seen, both devices are very similar. They share the amount of RAM, the processor and the integrated graphics card , that is, both models have 4 or 6 GB of LPDDR4 RAM, 32 or 64 GB eMMC, the Intel Celeron N400 processor (maximum speed of 2.6 GHz with 4MB L2 cache) and the Intel UHD Graphics 600. Regarding connectivity, both Chromebooks have WiFi 5 and Bluetooth, as well as a microSD card reader, USB A port and USB type C port. This is where we see one of the differences between both devices, and that is that the Chromebook 4 has only USB Type-C port and the Chromebook 4+ has two ports.

Differences also in the size of the screens and in the resolution. The Chromebook 4 mounts an 11.6-inch LCD panel with HD resolution (1,366 x 768 pixels), while its older brother opts for a 15.6-inch LCD whose resolution amounts to FullHD (1,920 x 1,080). In both cases, we have a 720p webcam integrated into the upper frame.

This difference in the screens also has a direct impact on the dimensions of the computers, especially in weight. The most basic device weighs just over a kilo, but the Plus model stays at 1.7 kilos. The thickness also varies, which is 16.7 millimeters in the Chromebook 4 and 16.5 millimeters in the Plus model.

Versions and price of the Samsung Chromebook 4 and Chromebook 4+

As we said, the new Samsung Chromebooks stay in the United States. They can be purchased in silver at BestBuy and the Samsung website at a price starting at $229.99 for the Chromebook 4 and $299.99 for the Chromebook 4+. At the change they are about 209 and 272 euros.
