Safety Measures When You Are Working Grinder Parts

by Edward Lewis social worker

There are a lot of surface grinder parts involved in any unit. Take the case of the angle die grinder for example. In this, there are as many as 25 to 30 parts involved. Here are some of them - the retaining ring, O ring, the ball bearing, spiral bevel gear, wheel cover, spindle, grip holder, woodruff key, tapping screw, compression spring, rubber pad, and much more. With so many grinder parts involved, you will naturally have to be careful. You must know how to work with them correctly, and you must know what to do when a particular part is not working.

But you can consider yourself lucky here. Here's why. The fact is, the automobile manufacturers are quite dogmatic with their patented components, and as a result, these parts do not work in vehicles that are not made for them. However, the small tool manufacturers are far more practical in this matter. They make components that are interchangeable, and so, the parts would most probably work when they are fitted into another.

If one particular item is unavailable, another marque will probably do just fine. In fact, professionals seldom discard a damaged or inoperative surface grinder. They would keep it in reserve for cannibalizing the spare parts. And there is no reason as to why you too cannot do so. If the overload relief switch in your running surface grinder goes kaput, replace it immediately with the 'dead' one lying in the store. But first of all, remove the power cord and keep your eyes well protected by using industrial goggles as part of the safety measures needed while servicing a power grinder.

The fault in a surface grinder need not necessarily be because of a defective component. There could be several reasons due to which it can falter. You should know that dust and dirt are principal enemies of grinder parts. So you should dismantle the unit whenever you find that it is not working properly. As you open the outer housing, you are sure to be confronted with layer upon layer of dust and debris that will obstruct most of the unit's fast moving area.

Remove the offending material carefully, and the other faulty areas will show themselves up. In most cases, you are likely to come across clogged carbon brushes that will alter the performance of the grinder. Replace the brush if necessary and you get a new surface grinder, practically free of cost.
