Safety features in a platform trolley that need to consider

by kapil Mehta # Guest Blogger

A platform trolley is among the many types of equipment that are needed in the industry. If you manufacture or use any type of heavy materials in the manufacturing and design process then buying the platform trolleys is a must.

As with all the other devices and equipment in your factory, you need to consider some of the safety parameters to ensure that the workers are at no risk of suffering from an injury during work. It is your prime responsibility to ensure that the work in your industry is being carried safely as per the industry standards.

Buy push trolley instead of a pull trolley

There are two types of platform trolley available in the market. They have different modes of mechanism to apply force on. One is a push trolley where you push the trolley in the forward direction from one end while the other is a pull trolley where you need to pull the trolley towards you. Now, push trolleys require less stress and force to work upon. The pull trolleys need a much larger force than the push trolleys. Pull trolleys also have a danger of running over your feet and thus it may cause an accident to the worker who is pulling the trolley.

Buy puncture-proof tires that don't have tubes

One of the most important things that are always less stressed about is the wheels and tires of your platform trolleys. Different types of wheel types are available for you. You can choose one according to your own needs but one of them stands way better than the rest. Generally, you can use the pneumatic tires, solid metal tires, and foam tires for your trolley. But the foam tires and pneumatic tires might get punctured if drawn over rugged terrain. The solid metal tires do not have this problem and are a much better option for heavyweight loads.

Ensure to check whether the trolley has been designed as per the industry standards

There are various tests and industry level certifications that a platform trolley has to pass through to be made fit for use for industrial uses. Do you have any specific standards in your industry for the platform trolleys? Try to know about them and make sure that the bought platform trolleys are certified with all the necessary standards. In case you do not have an idea try taking the help of an industry level expert who has deep knowledge about this. Find out stickers and labels on the body of the platform trolley to identify them.

Never use trolleys in sloping surfaces

Make sure that you don't use platform trolleys at all in sloping areas in your factory. This has a significant danger attached to it and like slipping from hands and it may even cause damage to goods kept below the sloping platform and run over them. To avoid this if you have no other option then you can buy trolleys that have brakes installed in them.
