Run! Old Coot's coming!

by Arthur Webster Just plain honesty

I would have thought, by now, that I would have discovered a valuable side to Apsense but, every time I look, I fail to see it.

The reason for this is blatantly obvious when I read some of the articles and comments. The articles are set up to be, primarily, attractive to those members who believe that they are running a business on the internet. The comments

  • Fail to be objective
  • Either totally agree or do not appear (hence the title of this article)
  • Are there to simply make up the numbers for those who love to post "Ooh lovely"
  •
Let's look, first of all at some of the "businesses" people claim to be running.
Far too many of them require recruitment in order to produce any income. This fact alone means that there is NO business, simply a wonderful list building exercise by the owner of the programme.
Recruitment might produce a little jam for some programmes but one of the essentials of a business is a consumable product. Something that is so good that customers keep coming back for more.
Repeatedly signing up for bizz-ops and dragging your list of followers with you is an abuse of your list and disrespectful to your followers.
It is distressing to look for a genuine opportunity on a site like Apsense and only find the sort of trash I routinely delete from any of my in-boxes. I have spotted pyramids being advertised, cyclers, multipliers and ponzis but very few REAL business opportunities.

It is not very good to see a forum being abused in the way that Apsense is being abused. It is terrible to promote the idea that Apsense is not rife with spam and scams when it so obviously is.

Worst of all, it is stupid to try to convince Wincer that you are happy with the way the site works when it is patently obvious that many of you are not. Do treat Wincer as a grown up business owner and honestly express your doubts and fears to him. I have seen enough common sense expressed (and decried) to know that the membership of Apsense is working (deliberately or not) to devalue a resource that it needs but has no idea how to defend.

Honesty can sting but apathy kills!

Well. Where all the defenders of Apsense? You know, those who try to promote it by writing nice articles about it. 27 page views is not many but, surely, within that number at least one person can formulate a defence against my sad observations and cobble together a response! How can Wincer possibly run his business if nobody will tell him the truth?

We just have to admire your persistence, Old Coot. You fail to see value in APSense, yet you keep coming back to check! One big question that exercises my thinking is just how much can a site like APSense police the stuff that is alleged to be spam and scam? The answer to that is going to depend on just how much we consider that each person is responsible for their own actions. I note that you delete the trash from your inbox. In just the same way, if you find any spam troublesome then ignoring it, or even removing contact with the sender, could be the way to go. No doubt you are also aware that there are some strategies that will help you bypass most of the content that does not suit your needs.

Hi, Neville, there was a time when the value in Apsense almost screamed at you each time you logged in. There were regular contributors who would allow questions and debates on whatever they had posted. Nowadays you see adverts posted as articles. One such advert for a mobile SMS advertising service, for example, has been published by someone who obviously knows nothing about the programme and does not know the programme and has not read the web site of the programme. The claim was that it was free - it says so on the web site. In reality the basic cost is €20 a month - THAT is what it says on the web site. This is simple abuse of the service Apsense provides. Sites like Apsense are necessary but they are being destroyed by the ignorance within.
