Roopkund Trekking Tour Package: How to Pack Your Backpack
by John Smith John SmithAs the name suggests, Roopkund is not
a city or town but a mystery lake (Kund) that is perched at a high altitude in
a remote corner of Chamoli District in Uttarakhand, India. Situated in the lap
of Trishul massif, this glacial lake is surrounded by snow-laden mountains,
horrifying skeletons, and no inhabitation. The trek to this lake embarks from
Kathgodam or Lohajung and winds upward into snow-bound Himalayan peaks.
Usually, trekkers prefer to drive up to Lohajung from Kathgodam and then begin
with their 8-9days journey with 7-10kms of each day trek. Having blessed with
dense forests, gurgling brooks, beckoning meadows, and mind-boggling campsites,
it’s a must-do adventure activity in the vicinity of Himalayas.
For backpackers, moving anywhere,
from place to place at any time without specific planning, is the craziest yet adventurous
expedition. But when it comes to Roopkund trekking, one must not forget, how
the place was found in the first place. Surrounded by tons of skeletons of
trekkers who were thrashed by a hailstorm, the scenic beauty might not be as
tranquil as one may construe. So, to avoid such perils of hailstorms and other
trek disasters, one must carry some essentials in their backpack and obtain a Roopkund
trekking tour package for a supported itinerary. Continue reading to learn
about these essentials in detail.
First things first, whether to buy or
rent a trekking gear for that can be an expensive investment. No adventurist
will ever advise buying all the gears at once. Either they will suggest
one-by-one purchase of them all for long-term use, or they will recommend
renting for a single trek.
BACKPACK: Before deciding on things to carry
in a backpack, one must choose the right bag. For Roopkund trek, the ideal bag
is one that is small in size and accumulates to approximately 50Litre that can
be expanded to 70litres when things for cooking are also required to be stored.
DAYPACK: It’s a nice idea to carry small
stuff like a camera and its accessories, mobile, water bottle, first-aid kit,
cosmetics, sunglasses, knife, torch, wipes, diary/pen, money, polythene,
plastic sheets, Feviquick, and safety pins in a day pack. It’s quite big in
size and a perfect solution to carry stuff that will be used frequently.
SLEEPING BAG/CAMPING TENT: Besides having woolen
clothes to keep the trekkers warm, sleeping bags and camping tents are two
essential accommodation alternatives to survive in -5 degrees Celsius.
TREKKING SHOES: Ankle-high,
light-weight, and water/snow-proof shoes are preferred for a trek. Traction of
these shoes supports walking in uneven surfaces, mud-trail, and snow.
TREKKING POLE/ROPE/STRING/HAMMER: Trekking pole, rope, and
hammer are the hiking essentials that one can require anytime on the trek.
These tools come handy during climbing, so all the rough trail hurdles can be
tackled with ease.
