Resolve QuickBooks Error 6073

  • QuickBooks Error 6073” occurs if the file is open on another computer in a  single-user mode.
  • If your file is situated in a read-only network folder.
  • The documents are accessed through a remote network.

Solutions to Fix QuickBooks Error 6073

Fix 1: Manual Methods to Resolve QuickBooks Error 6073

Scenario 1: If the company file is opened in single-user mode.

  1.  The first thing you have to do is shut down QuickBooks in all the PCs.
  2.  Now, open the company file from the Host Computer.
  3.  Go to the File menu and switch to multi-user mode.
  4.  If QuickBooks Error 6073 still exists, then reboot all the computers.


Scenario 2: If the company file is opened on Host Computer.

  1.   Firstly, go to the File menu and choose Close company.
  2.  After that, re-open company file.
  3.  Now, choose Open or Restore Company from the File menu.
  4.  Open a Company File and click on Next.
  5.  You have to select the file and choose to Open file in multi-user mode.


Scenario 3: If the file is located in a read-only network folder.

  1. First of all, go to the hosting computer.
  2.  Now, open the folder having company file.
  3.  Right-click the folder and choose Properties.
  4.  Next, go to the Security tab and choose the user having issues while login.
  5.  Click on Edit then choose Allow and click Ok.

Fix 3: Create Network Data File if the existing one is unavailable or corrupted

  1.  Go to the Start button, right-click on it and open Windows Explorer.
  2.  Now, find the folder having a QuickBooks company file.
  3.  Next, right-click on the company file with .ND and QuickBooks company file extension.
  4.  You need to change the file extension to .ndold and hit Enter.
  5.  After that, open QuickBooks and then the company file.
  6.  Finally, QB will make another Network Data file.


Fix 4: Verify that network data files and transaction log files are not tagged as hidden files

  1.  The first step is to open My Computer, then go to the Tools menu.
  2.  Click on Folder options.
  3.  Now, go to View window and click on Show hidden files & folders.
  4.  After that, you have to open the data folder to check network data files and transaction log file.
  5.  Right-click on the network data file and then choose Properties.
  6.  Lastly, delete Hidden option and click Ok to save changes.
