Repair is The New Green

by Ankit Kashyap Blogger
One of the burning topics of all time is the increasing threat to the life of the big blue marble which we call our home. Is there anything that we can do to make a little easier for our mother earth? The answer to this is YES. We can do a small bit at our own end and yet make a difference visible on the scale.

The solution lies with our everyday’s smart toy commonly known as the smartphone. Now you must be wondering how you can contribute to life using a smartphone. Is there any app available for doing so? We’ll correct your direction to think, all you have to do is deal with your phone for a bit longer than you have already planned.

As per the reports, million tons of e-waste is generated only in India and a large portion of it is shared by smartphones, tablets and laptops which are discarded for many reasons by the users.Electronics are now an essential part of our lives. Sure, our gadgets are getting thinner and lighter, but they still require a massive outlay of natural resources, contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, and gobble up a lot of energy during their lifetime. All that for devices designed to last just a few years.

Getting tough to believe, Isn’t it?  But it is the hard truth. To upgrade ourselves amongst our friends and family, we have been careless towards our source of the resources for all these pleasures. Electronics in our daily life now needs to be upgraded as sustainable devices that are designed to have a long life—and that means prioritising repair and upgradability. Plus, devices that are easier to disassemble are also easier to recycle. Reusing, repairing, and recycling are always greener than manufacturing something a new.

Apart from the aspect of minimising the negative impact on the planet of Humans, there are several other benefits of promoting repair and making it a global. One of the best advantages of this campaign is generation of more jobs. Yes to get your smartphone repaired you are going to need technicians, and professionals who will be providing training to the keen learners. Not just this, there are more to add in the list.

Other than spending a large amount on purchase of a new smartphone which will end up lasting for nearly the same lifetime, it is better to opt for a repair. Let’s take your old computer which is lagging a lot lately and you are planning to buy a new one. Well the solution could be to just get your device’s RAM increased. Not only will this put a full stop to your PC issues but will also be pocket friendly to you. Similar is the case with smartphones. We at Yaantra provide solutions for all types of smartphone and tablet repairs.

Now there is a possibility of the thought of crossing your mind that you are in a situation to buy a new phone, this one is really retarded. No worries friend, you can give away your phone to any repair service provider other than throwing it away. Other than that you could be the reason for making someone’s day by giving to someone in need. It could be the person working at your home or to a younger member of the family and light up their faces.

There are many others possibilities through which you can make the most of your smartphone. Throwing it away is the least preferred. All these small efforts coupled up lead to less production of wastes and in the end make you go green. So think again the next time to try to get rid of your smartphone.
