Rainwater Harvesting: A Step toward Water Conservation and Sustainability.
by Saakaar Constructions Building Homes Building DreamsWater is the most
essential offering of nature to us that we receive in the form of rains.
Population explosion, global warming, climate change, rapid industrialization, construction
activities, etc. have created the challenging problem of water shortage in
front of whole nation. Over extraction of groundwater has further severed the
problem by depleting the internal storage as well. To address this challenge,
the only alternative is water conservation and the jest use of water. To
enhance water conservation, most of the municipalities and urban local bodies
have made it mandatory to implement a rainwater harvesting system with new
residential constructions.
However, its implementation
is inconsistent as rainwater harvesting activities are more seasonal and a
passive form of water conservation. Moreover, most of the builders, planners
and developers ignore this to avoid additional cost.
Challenge: Every
year in rainy seasons, hundreds of gallon water simply swept away with rain to
the drains on their natural way to sea or river. In simple words, we lost a
great amount of water by not storing it. As a reason in the dry season, we face
the problem of water scarcity.
The second
challenge is the massive construction and infrastructure that we have created.
Concrete or permanent structures create an obstacle in the natural recharge of
groundwater by rain. Due to this, water can’t naturally percolate into the
ground that has created the problem of depletion of groundwater.
Rain Water Harvesting and its benefits: In simple words, rainwater harvesting can be explained
as essential measures to store the rainwater and utilize it in more efficient
way. Rainwater from the rooftop or other places can be collected into
pre-constructed water tanks to use the collected water later on.
It can be also
done to recharge groundwater in which required structure is to be built which
has borehole that transfers the collected water to underground. It helps in
enhancing the water level.
By rainwater
harvesting, we can reduce our dependence on municipal water supply for
supporting nonessential activities like cleaning, washing, etc. Also, the
collected water can be used for gardening, watering trees and lawns. Some of
the modern real estate plannings have an attached RO plant to purify the water
and make it drinkable.
Saakaar Aquacity & Rainwater harvesting:
The name Aquacity itself suggests about over
concern for water, its application and conservation. Saakaar Aquacity is well
equipped with a rain water harvesting system to collect the rainwater in the
large storage tanks. Later, the collected water is used for supporting various
activities. Also, additional water is transferred to ground by groundwater
recharging structures. It will help in reducing water consumption from
conventional sources which in results helps in our sustainable goals.
Our measures for
efficient rainwater harvesting show our concern for environment and sustainable
development. It’s one of our steps for water conservation. For more details
