Before dismantling your current house, visualise what you want your new home to look like. Upon which, you can categorise your belongings based on whether you need them or not. This “how to pack for a move checklist is inspired by the Marie Kondo method of organising.

1.     Sort out your belongings according to the rooms.

2.    Discard first– it will help you get a better idea of how you would design your new home. A thing that does not spark joy, is not meant for your new start.

3.    The best part about this is that you can sell some of the stuff for some extra cash.

4.    Use boxes of all sizes to make sure that the delicate belongings are safe. Label the boxes for easy unpacking later.

To minimise the risk of damage to your stuff, it is advised to opt for transit insurance that is offered by the movers & packers’ company itself. Heavy items such as home appliances, electrical gadgets, large furniture, kitchen appliances, and garden equipment are the only items included in this insurance.

You can either opt for transit insurance that takes care of damages only while transporting or all-inclusive insurance that is applicable throughout the cycle– packing, docking, moving, and transporting. This is a must in your home moving checklist for worry-free transport.

5. Important hack for the official move

Always pack a separate carry-on bag for the first few days at your new house. You might not get a chance to unpack everything in the first couple of days. This organised moving checklist includes–

  2. Blankets and bedsheets
  3. ID proof
