Quick Checklist for moving to a new area
by Jyoti D. Real Estate BloggersMaking the move is a
strong step toward new beginnings. While the process may seem daunting, small
steps can help you accomplish a smooth transition. Here is a step-by-step relocation
checklist.
1. Sort
out your belongings based on the new house
Before dismantling your
current house, visualise what you want your new home to look like. Upon which,
you can categorise your belongings based on whether you need them or not. This
“how to pack for a move” checklist is inspired by the Marie
Kondo method of organising.
1.
Sort out your belongings according to the
rooms.
2.
Discard first– it will help you get a
better idea of how you would design your new home. A thing that does not spark
joy, is not meant for your new start.
3.
The best part about this is that you can
sell some of the stuff for some extra cash.
4.
Use boxes of all sizes to make sure that
the delicate belongings are safe. Label the boxes for easy unpacking later.
2. handy-dandy checklist of documents
The household moving
checklist requires you to take care of a few matters, at least 3-4 weeks
before leaving–
- Get
your bank details changed first, it will help in the later procedures.
Visit your nearest branch for an address change.
- Ask
your insurance agent to help you with the transfer of your policy. A
request letter will suffice for necessary changes.
- For
PPF, visit your nearest post office to notify the transfer. Mutual funds
can be updated on the CDSL website.
- For
IT records, update your PAN details and your new address will be recorded.
- Get
an appointment with the nearest passport office and fill out Form II
3. Register for utilities at the new home.
Ensure that your new home is ready before the move. This is
the essentials checklist for moving to a
new house–
- Electricity
- Gas
- Internet services
- Water supply
- Sanitary sewer arrangements
- Home security system
- Cable/ Set-Top box
connection
4. Relocation insurance
To minimise the risk of damage to your stuff, it is advised to
opt for transit insurance that is offered by the movers & packers’ company
itself. Heavy items such as home appliances, electrical gadgets, large furniture,
kitchen appliances, and garden equipment are the only items included in this
insurance.
You can either opt for transit insurance that takes care of damages only while transporting or all-inclusive insurance that is applicable throughout the cycle– packing, docking, moving, and transporting. This is a must in your home moving checklist for worry-free transport.
5. Important hack for the official move
Always pack a separate carry-on
bag for the first few days at your new house. You might not get a chance to
unpack everything in the first couple of days. This organised
moving checklist includes–
- Outfits
for office, home, nightwear, and casuals.
- Blankets
and bedsheets
- ID
proof
- Cash
and cards
- Chargers
and gadgets
- Toiletries
and medical kit
- Pack
a few utensils for light cooking (the rule is moving night is pizza party
night)
This will take care of a
few necessities instead of unpacking the whole load.
Lastly, unpack gradually,
focusing on one room at a time. You might find a few extra things that don’t
fit in your new house; the best approach is to donate them. This shall shed a
good first impression of you in the community. For such secured gated
communities, Kolte Patil developers have introduced huge townships. These
cordial societies help the new residents with their move. Hoping that this moving guide was eased out your stress,
may the new house bring you great endeavours.
