PURPOSE OF OUR LIFE

by Siya Kapoor Content Writer
Just as diverse individuals have different personalities, likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses, they have different goals and ambitions too. I am sure we all have some goal in our life we are striving to achieve. Being a dancer, I push myself harder to achieve flexibility I still don’t have. Whenever I perform, I sincerely try to give it my best shot every single time. There are people who study very hard to excel in school or college; there are people who leave no stone unturned in attaining the desired position in office. The efforts are truly admirable. But once we attain our desired goal, we start thinking, what next? We see so many people running after material wealth, success, and worldly pleasures. They have achieved all possible dreams and now they just cannot stop. Many successful people end up in depression and misery, and finally commit suicide. Why does this happen?

My dear friend Monty Chadha says-“Success is an addiction. The more one gets, the more one needs.” Well said Mr. Monty Chadha. Dreaming is good. Having clear and lofty goals is great. Working hard to achieve them is even better. But centring your life around those ambitions is not good. Giving them utmost importance and side-lining other equally important things is worse. And to get carried away by success and losing the sense of right and wrong is the worst that could happen to someone. Such people never get true fulfilment they should get on achieving a certain goal.

Instead of making ephemeral things such as wealth, people, job etc. the focus of our lives, we should make a noble purpose the centre of our lives. All other things are transient. The goals and ambitions we have should only serve as the means to achieving the ultimate goal. The intention with which we strive determines everything. For instance, I desire to hold a powerful position in society one day. I desire power not because I want people to look up to me, or because I want to rule over them. I desire power to transform society positively. A single powerful person with the right intentions can change the course of an entire nation. A single individual determined to drive the society towards happiness has the power to
inspire million others to follow in his/her footsteps.

Let us all strive to become happy by spreading happiness to others. I say so because a person working for the happiness of others cannot fail to be happy himself.
