Getting a public administration degree online or in-person through classroom attendance is one of the most rewarding experiences that many professionals encounter. Learning the skills to succeed at the top levels within the working world is certainly impactful to their future, but to what degree it will shape their career depends largely on what type of degree they pursue. Let’s look at the three primary levels of education available in the field of public administration, and how each prepares professionals for success.

Bachelor of Science – Public Administration

The bachelor’s level of education is one that gives students a solid backbone in the field they are studying. This is certainly true of public administration; graduates of these bachelor programs can expect livable wages at a host of varying jobs available to them.

At the bachelor’s level, you will typically take a wide range of courses including project management, U.S history including information about congress, communications classes and more. These courses are designed to work together to give you an overall understanding of the type of work you will be faced with in the professional setting.

Masters of Public Administration

At the masters level, students increase their focus. This does not mean that courses are no longer available through convenient, online means, however. Many public and private colleges offer online education, and getting your public administration degree online is entirely possible, even at this level!

Here, you will see more specialized courses. Public sector overviews and discussions for those interested in public works careers, financial and wealth management for those looking to get into the financial sector. What you want to do will ultimately dictate the majority of what classes you take at this level.

Doctor of Philosophy – Public Administration

The level of doctorate study offers even greater flexibility for graduates, in that students can choose their area of focus almost entirely. This means that if a student wants to achieve a high position in the area of finance or public works, they are free to pursue courses that relate directly to the intended outcome.

Once students have achieved a doctorate degree in public administration, there are few jobs in the field that are off-limits to them. With an extensive education and understanding of project management, communication and directorial duties, these professionals are ready for rich and rewarding careers helping others do exciting and meaningful work!
