In banking competitive exams, solving reading comprehension questions are no child’s play, however, with a few pro-tips, even these questions can be tackled with much ease. So, here we go with our universal mantra for solving reading comprehension question:

1) Speed-reading can save you – Your first approach toward reading comprehension questions should be ‘a quick glance’. Our brain is trained to read the whole word and is not limited to reading letter by letter, so the more you read the more information will be comprehended. However, don’t spend much time skimming, just quickly read the passage to know the crux, how different paragraphs are related and what all info they provide. SPEED COMES WITH PRACTICE, so practice test every day.

2) Speed read all the questions – Now that you have skimmed the passage, its time you speed read all the questions. If possible while reading the passage note down a few important things, which will act as the short keywords for your handiness. Its time to go back to the passage, make use of your keywords and start answering the questions one by one. Make sure you keep this reading and answering questions activity under 2 or 3 minutes.

3) Be as choosy as possible, it will help – There are a total of 5 types of questions under the reading comprehension section –
i) Deduction based
ii) Direct
iii) Theme based
iv) Vocabulary based
v) Correct and incorrect statements

Try choosing questions that lead you to the direct answers, like the last type – correct and incorrect statements usually have a catch. And the vocabulary questions and the direct questions are the ones that have definite answers, hence should be attempted first.

4) Vocabulary questions for an easy score – It is easy to tackle vocabulary questions, as you can understand the meaning of the word from the passage sentence. This is even easy for words that have multiple meanings. Start with vocabulary questions and finish them in the least possible time. These questions are a sure shot way to score more or even full in competitive exams.

These were a few technical tips; however, the best is to work on your skills. This obviously is in your hand. Invest your time wisely, don’t get too worked up or too stressed, develop an exam strategy and test it with practicing test series from an acknowledged PO coaching in Delhi. These test series from a reputed source will help you in analysing what approach works best for you and how and where you need to improve, bringing you closer to perfection.
