by Lisa C. Marketing Writer

Fabric-effect or linen-look or fabric-look porcelain tiles are textured porcelain tiles that have been designed to have the look and feel of fabric. When installed correctly, it feels like as if the floor has been made of some fabric.

These are quite a popular porcelain tile variety. In this article, we mention some of the pros and cons of fabric look tiles to help understand it well and make an informed buying decision. Check out the following subsections –

Pros –

Highly Durable:

These tiles are strong and durable. You can expect these tiles perform just like any other porcelain tile. They will stay there in your home for over a decade, or more if taken well care of.

Does Not Support Allergens:

Mold, mildew, and other types of fungus often develop on concrete floors and natural stone floors. That’s because these floors are porous.

However, fabric look porcelain tiles are non porous and these floors do not support the presence or development of these organisms.

Water- and Stain-Resistant:

Fabric or linen gets wet and stained because of water and other fluids. But fabric effect tiles don’t. Since they are porous, they do not catch stains and absorb water. Water naturally dries on the floor surface, but does not seep through and reaches the substrate or backboard.

Cons –

Feels Cold:

If you live colder climatic region, the floor could increase the discomfort in your home, as it feels cold when you walk or stand on it. That’s the nature of porcelain tiles. As a solution, you can use floor heating solutions to rid of such issues.

Heavy –

Although these tiles look like fabric, they are quite heavy and you will always need an assistant to move large tiles or tile box from one place to another.

Difficult to Install –

Plus, these tiles require careful installation approach to achieve the desired look. For these reasons, installing these tiles is not a DIY project.
