Points To Consider Before Joining A Photography Workshop

by Ankita Sehgal Freelance Blogger, Lives in New Delhi
As an aspiring photographer, you may already have the qualities of hard work, perseverance, and an eye for detail that will help you become a successful professional. Though these traits are essential for success in any field, it is also important to continuously hone your skills through research and study.

Photography workshops are amongst the best mediums for enabling aspiring photographers to learn new skills and build a strong network. So if you are serious about photography and planning to join a workshop, here are a few points you must consider.

Know your requirements

First, analyze what you really want. Do you want to improve your skill by learning certain camera techniques or are interested in other aspects like printing, composition, finding the right focus, etc? You also need to make sure whether you want to attend a workshop where the instructor will help you acquire certain photography skills or want to meet people from the same background and similar interests. Join only when you are certain that the workshop will be beneficial for you.

Trainer

Trainers are the backbone of a photography workshop. Before you enroll for the digital camera workshop check the background of the instructor like experience and organizations where he has worked, has he won any awards, how much local knowledge does he have, etc? You will get to know a lot about the instructor through his blogs or social media accounts. In case you are still not sure, get information about the instructor from other photographers who have attended his workshop in the past.

Number of participants

Your research should also include the number of students attending the workshop. A crowded workshop will make it tough for the instructor to provide attention to each and every student. Select workshops that have around 8 to 10 participants. In small workshops, you will not only get individual attention but also valuable feedback that will help you polish your photography skills.

Focus

Find out whom the workshop is aimed at and what is being taught. Is it for professional photographers or amateurs? If you are an aspiring photographer then you will surely not want to join the one that imparts training to professionals. Similarly, the workshop may be imparting training in a particular field like portrait, landscape, fashion, wildlife, sports, wedding photography among others, so keep this point in mind when choosing a workshop.

There are many photography workshops that are held all throughout the year. But before rushing to enroll in photography workshops in Delhi or elsewhere, do your homework and identify the one which is suitable for you. A good workshop run by professional instructors will help you become a much better photographer.
