Planning for Retirement

by Phil Cannella Financial Advisor
Planning for Retirement can be a daunting task.  What are your retirement options?  What are the best Individual Retirement Accounts?  Will Social Security be enough to take care of me in retirement?

Every retiree asks these questions at some point, so don’t feel bad if you’re feeling overwhelmed about planning for retirement.

All you need is to sit down with a financial planner who is willing to give you an education about retirement, rather than just try to sell you something.  For anyone feeling like they’re unprepared for retirement, good education on the topic  can help put your mind at ease.

When traditional financial planners look at you, they see dollar signs and little else.  You should only trust a company that see you as a real person who needs help planning for retirement. It is not easy to find a company that provides value in a transparent way.

The first step to getting education in retirement planning  is attending an educational event. Of course, only free events. The second step is having a personal consultation with a financial advisor.

When you have your consultation, your real education will begin.  Advisors should let you know what options are available to you.  During these sessions, you will get a better idea of your overall financial picture, and you may open your eyes to new options you didn’t even know about before.

Do not be afraid to ask as many questions as you want! Somebody says that asking questions can be embarassing for a moment, but not asking can be embarassing for a lifetime.

Only when you will have a 100% clear picture of the situation you will be ready to implement your education, and commit to a specific financial program.
