About Amritsar

Amritsar is a largest city in the state of Punjab, India. This city is located in the north-western part of the country, is a home for world renowned Golden Temple (Harmandir Sahib), and considered as the holy place for the Sikh religion. This temple alone draws 100,000 visitors on weekdays and it is the best tourist destination for most of Non Resident Indians (NRIs). It had bitter memories during, pre and post Indian Independence movement. Most violent revolts in the Indian history were taken place in the city including, ‘Jallianwala Bagh Massacre’, ‘Operation Blue Star’. Post-Independence, while the ‘British India’ partitioned in to ‘India’ and ‘Pakistan’, there is a profound effect on the city’s economy, culture and politics. Temples, memorials, and delicious Punjabi cuisines are the best things to explore in the city. Book flights from Dubai to Amritsar and enjoy the diversity of the Indian city with huge savings.

Tourist Attractions

Being a religious city, Amritsar enjoys many temples and memorials. Golden Temple is the prime attraction of the city and sacred place for the Sikhs. Golden Temple draws more visitors than the Taj Mahal, which is one amongst the Seven Wonders of the World. Inside and the surroundings of the temple seems to be busy with myriad pilgrims every day. While entering in to the temple, visitors must cover their head with a cloth (scarves). ‘Ghanta Ghar’ is the entrance of the temple, where you will have to wash your feet in the water. Entering in to the temple, you will see the Amrit Sarovar, which is a colossal water pool for visitors and devotees to bathe in (as per the Sikh tradition, sins will be cleaned by getting bathe in this water & there is a separate sections for men and women). Akal Takht and Central Sikh Museum are also located inside the temple, where you can explore the religion and temple history. You can listen to the Sikh’s sacred book ‘Adi Granth’ scriptures that narrate out loud during the day time.

Jallianwala Bagh is another place to visit in Amritsar. This memorial is located nearby the Golden Temple. During the Indian Independence Movement, unarmed men, women and children were gathered at Jallianwala Bagh for a political meeting. At that time, British Indian Army opened fire at the crowd, which left 1579 die (including children), and 1100 with severe wounds. There was a memorial built by the Indian Government, in order to commemorate the victims. Book Dubai to Amritsar cheap flights and make your trip memorable.

Mata Temple, Ram Tirth, Wagha Border, and Summer Palace of Maharaja Ranjit Singh are the nearby attractions in the city.
