Pious Travel Calls of Pushkar

by Ravi K. Content Writer
A trip to Pushkar is an inseparable part of the tour for most religious minded Hindu tourists visiting Rajasthan. Famed for its numerous temples including the rare Brahma temple, holy ghats and overall pious appeal, Pushkar prompts many travellers to visit from faraway places. Being a famed tourist destination in Rajasthan, Pushkar is also located pretty close to numerous other popular travel destinations of the state. For instance, the well known tourist hotspots of Jaipur and Sariska are not too far. Familiarise yourself with the top attractions in Pushkar and find out some travel information on Jaipur and Sariska by quickly running through this short Pushkar travel guide.

Jagat Pita Brahma Mandir Travel

Visiting this temple is perhaps the top highlight of one’s travel to pushkar. Being one of the very few Brahma temples in the world, it is highly revered and goes way back in history. While the present structure alone dates back to the 14th century, it is said that the actual temple at the site was more than 2000 years old. The temple has been largely built from slabs of marble and stone. It is adorned with a unique red shikhara or pinnacle and a hamsa bird motif. A special festival is held here on Kartik Poornima. The Pushkar travel tourism industry owes a huge part of its popularity to this temple.

Visiting Pushkar Fair

Try to plan your Pushkar tour during the Pushkar fair to make your visit a colourful affair. The fair lasts for five days and spells as non stop merriment for villagers and boisterous haggling amongst traders. It is amongst the country’s largest cattle fairs, where camels make for the centre of attraction. There are special stalls, where camels are decorated intricately with silver jewellery and beads. Ringlets of small bells are put around the ankles of the camels and these jingle melodiously when the animals walk. In short, if you fix your Pushkar travel planner during the Camel Fair festival, you can look forward to a gala experience.

Pushkar Lake Tour

No Pushkar travel can be complete without offering obeisance at the Pushkar Lake. While one legend goes that the lake was created when Lord Shiva cried out his heart for his beloved Sati, another story has it that the lake was formed from a fallen petal from Lord Brahma’s Lotus. All said and done, the fact remains that the lake is held very sacred and it appears miraculously in the heart of a very dry area. More than 350 temples and 52 ghats ring the lake. Scores of ardent devotees offer prayers at these ghats and this is an inseparable part of most people’s Pushkar travel planner.
