Personal Training For Marathon Season

by Neighborhood Trainers Finding a trainer is a personal choice

It is hard to imagine, but all your non-running friends haven’t noticed that it is marathon season. You probably feel a bit sorry for them, because you’re in the middle of something that they just don’t understand.

They haven’t experienced the amazing experience of reaching the ‘taper’ before a marathon. They just don’t get that because you did your last long run yesterday and now are officially tapering, unless something dreadful happens, you’re going to finish a marathon in two weeks’ time. It is ok to feel smug too, because these people still think a PB is a sandwich.

You’ve proven you can survive a marathon from start to finish, but what if you want to get further than just finishing? (Side note: Can you remember back when your marathon goal was to finish running on the same day you started? Yeah? Oh the good old days!)

If you’re hoping this next marathon will help you get into one of those elite, hoity-toity races that you have to qualify for, you might consider Westchester personal trainers. Actually, anyone who could get into one of those races would elbow their grandma out of the way. So, no judgment here.

What will a Westchester personal trainer do that the guide from Runner’s World can’t? Well for a start, they will actually use your name and they will help you run faster. They might help you with what to eat as you taper. (Yes, in runner’s circles taper is a verb. I taper, you taper, he she …). They will also – and this is the really cool part – they will be happy to construct a program which is going to achieve your goals.

It is a bit like rubbing the genie in the lamp. Think back to Aladdin, with you playing his part. Aladdin rubs the lamp, personal trainer appears and asks “what is your wish?” You say, I want to run fast enough to get into the famous New York City marathon, except not in the 75-year old category because I am only 30.

At this point, personal trainer, aka genie, either laughs and says the runner’s equivalent of “never in a million” and returns quietly to sleep in the lamp. Or personal trainer aka genie says “ok, here’s how we’re going to do it”. Results!

Now you get a program for you. You get help and, all being equal, you qualify.
