If you are seriously injured in a car accident or other type of accident you will receive immediate medical treatment. But if you are not seriously injured the full impact of your injuries might not even be known for a few days. Personal injury physicians see patients all the time who didn’t even think they were injured at the time of the accident. When you are in an accident your body starts pumping adrenaline to protect you, and that adrenaline can cause you to not feel pain from small injuries like sprains or strains. After a few days when the adrenaline is no longer present you will start to feel pain, or notice that you can’t move as well as you should be able to. Those injuries are still accident related and should be documented and treated. You should not have to pay out of pocket for treatment for any accident related injuries. Doctors who see personal injury victims shared this advice for people who notice injuries after an accident:

Take the injuries seriously: Many people think that strains and sprains are not serious injuries and often don’t even bother to see a doctor for care. But, any injury that is caused by an accident should be evaluated by a doctor and documented. You may end up with limited mobility, impaired range of motion, or other chronic conditions as a result of the injury. If you have an injury that could continue to need care for months or even years after the accident you should be compensated for that. So even if you don’t have any serious injuries from an accident go to a doctor and get evaluated within three or four days of the accident. It’s important to get any injuries treated and documented as soon as possible after an accident.

Find a doctor that specializes in personal injuries: Doctors who only see patients who have been in accidents will usually perform a more thorough examination than another type of doctor would. Not all injuries are obvious after an accident. A personal injury doctor knows what tests to run to rule out injuries that you might not even know you have. An experienced personal injury doctor will also know how to document the injuries that you have to be presented in court. If you need to go to court to get compensation for your injuries personal injury doctors are used to filing documents or appearing in court to provide evidence of injuries. Many personal injury doctors also accept medical liens so that you don’t need to pay any money up front to get evaluated or treated for your injuries.

There are many personal injury physicians who only see accident victims. Your lawyer should be able to recommend a reputable doctor who can take care of you. It’s very common for personal injury lawyers to have an entire network of doctors and care providers that they work with regularly to help clients get medical care, physical therapy, and other necessary treatments.
