Permanent Resident Canada Visa Pathways

by Visa Consultant Immigration Expert

A variety of visa pathways are available to immigration aspirants who wish to attain the coveted permanent resident Canada status, which allows them to access job opportunities, public healthcare, subsidized education and various social benefits in the country. Each pathway is targeted towards a specific immigrant profile.

An aspirant must identify and select the most appropriate Canada immigration process, in accordance with their credentials and purpose for immigration. Before applying through any pathway, the candidate must ensure that they are capable of meeting relevant Canada PR requirements. The following immigration programs are direct pathways for permanent residence:

Family Sponsorship

An adult citizen or permanent resident of Canada can sponsor an eligible relative to permanently live, work or study in Canada.

Express Entry Program

A streamlined and swift online process that ranks eligible skilled workers based on a point allocation system, and invites highest-scoring candidates to apply for permanent residence.

Provincial Nominee Program

Eligible workers may be nominated for permanent residence by a Canadian province or territory, provided they have the required skills, work experience and education to contribute to the local economy of that province or territory.

Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program

This pilot allows employers in the four Atlantic provinces (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island) to hire skilled workers from overseas, and international students who have graduated from a college or university in an Atlantic province – to permanently live and work in the province.

Caregivers

Eligible caregivers who can fulfill the minimum eligibility requirements and possess a valid job offer may apply for permanent residence through the Home Child Care Provider Pilot or Home Support Worker Pilot.

Start-up Visa Program

Entrepreneurs can start new businesses and create jobs in the Canadian economy by receiving support from a designated organization, and become permanent residents in the process.

Self-employed Persons Program

People with relevant experience, who can contribute to cultural activities or athletics in Canada, can permanently relocate as permanent residents.

Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot Program

This community-driven program provides a pathway for permanent residence to foreign skilled workers who can contribute to the economy of smaller communities by living and working in that area.

Each pathway has a unique set of eligibility criteria and distinct application procedures. An aspirant may pursue the pathway that they are most qualified for, in order to be considered for the permanent resident Canada visa.
