PC Touch Screen and Multi-touch Technology Now Changing Ways For SCADA System

by Archer Finch Software SCADA
Touch screen technology has brought in a revolutionary change lately as now we don’t have to struggle with the mouse to select a particular point on the screen and also there is no need to use the keyboard when were are at a teller machine or POS machine. As touch screen is making things easier in various applications, the same is applicable for SCADA system too.

It is noted that the multi-touch screen manipulations using SCADA at PC Touch Screen machines are almost three times faster when it compared to a keyboard input or a pointing device. This can in turn increase the operator efficiency greatly and thereby contribute towards better productivity.

Multi touch over traditional SCADA operations

The industrial touch screens provide a wide range of advantages over the traditional solutions, which required keyboard and pointing devices. Multi-touch screens have now become a part of our everyday life, ranging from smart phones to laptops.

Going a step ahead, unlike the single-point touch screen designs, the multi-touch systems are more efficient in recognising the position of various touch contacts over the screen and perform multiple user-requested actions at a time. The combination of the touches on the screen and the finger movements are known as gestures. On rightly using these gestures, the operators can command the entire system without the need for a keyboard or pointer.

Multi-touch is now becoming a fast reality for the HMI users. A typical HMI SCADA system now operates on PC and supports tablet and smart phone users also through easy to use interfaces. With its latest touch friendly operating system, Microsoft also added an easy to manipulate gesture Application Programming Interfaces, which offers multi-touch screen functionality and enables certain HMI/SCADA suppliers to directly incorporate it in a seamless, cost-effective manner.

Save cost and space

There are a few people still finding multi-touch screens as a useless gimmick; however, there are some real benefits to point out about this technology. One such area is the ability of multi-touch to become hardware free by eliminating the use of a keyboard and pointing devices. The maintenance cost will be largely reduced this way as keyboards

Keyboards and pointing devices need to be maintained dirt free and also protected from extreme temperatures, vibrations, and chemicals etc. This could be expensive and also takes more space and manual effort to maintain. In contrast to it, the multi-touch screens of a SCADA system only have minimal components, which are much easier to maintain and monitor in industrial environment.

Highly user friendly

Multi-touch technology in HMI systems is based on the projected capacitate platforms which can be used for many years with touch screen devices as smart phones or POS terminals. Multi-touch technology is built using these technologies with its functionality extended to accommodate the new touch features also expected in feature. Adapting multi-touch for SCADA applications can also ensure a higher security, reliability, and safety in industrial environments.

As n case of personal computers, the PC touch screen of industrial multi-touch machines also needed to be protected well to ensure maximum durability. For this, a protective layer of glass or polycarbonate is used, which will safeguard the screen from any damage caused by vibration, scratches, or extreme temperatures.

Hey myself Archer Finch. Even though I took extra care about my systems, but still it was more prone to hacking. With the introduction of the PC Touch Screen, my system is now very much safe from all sorts of threats, as most of the SCADA system are connected to web based portals or products.
