CHARDHAM: The Holy Himalayas up in the misty heights of the majestic Garhwal Himalayas that adorn the wonderful region of Uttaranchal is waiting to rejuvenate spiritual experience for the devotees.

 

 

Traveling in the high peaks are the four most holy pilgrimages of India -Yamunotri, Gangotri, Sri Kedarnathji and Sri Badrinathji, collectively known to as the Char Dham (or four pilgrimage centers) of Hinduism. For centuries, saints, monks and pilgrims in their discovery for the divine, have walked these incredible valleys identified in ancient Hindu scriptures as 'Kedarkhand'.

For one, they are all in the icy Garhwal areas and regarded as the most holy of all Himalayan ranges. It is also believed that heaven and earth converge in these holy destinations, and to be born or die here is a boon only the very fortunate have. The Chardham must be visited by travelers from left to right -beginning with Yamunotri, going on to Gangotri, Kedarnath and culminating the journey at Badrinath. This route follows the Hindu tradition of parikrama or clockwise circumambulation.

 

 

YAMUNOTRI:  Yamunotri is famous for its holiness and hilly tourist destination in India and the temple is among the highly visited pilgrimage destinations. The Goddess Yamuna, one of the most pious rivers in India, However, a catastrophic earthquake damaged the temple severely. Thereafter also, the shrine has witnessed various phases of reconstruction and construction because of the impact of different natural disasters.

 

 

The doors of the pilgrimage open on the special occasion of Akshay Tritiya, which comes somewhere in early May and are closed after two days of Diwali, which falls between mid October end and November.

Gangotri offers scenic splendors and adventures of the rugged terrains, gushing water of Bhagirathi River and snow clad peaks. Gangotri remains opened from May and get closed on the day of Diwali festival as the idol of the goddess is carried to her winter residence at Mukhba.

KEDARNATH: Kedarnath is located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, which comes in Garhwal region. The place is nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas at an altitude of 3584 meter above sea level. Kedarnath Temple, known as one of the holiest destinations in Hinduism (Char Dhams), has the highest and most popular of all the 12 Jyotirlingas. The magnificent River Mandakini flows in closeness to the temple. During summers, this pilgrimage site is flocked by the tourists who come to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva.

Tourists can find many inscriptions and symbols written in Pali language on the steps leading to the sanctums. This tourist destination is the too adventures to reach of all the Chardhams. The temple is open only in summers for 6 months. The shrine remains closed in winters as the region receives heavy snowfall during winter season, which makes the climatic conditions adverse for habitation.

This place is one of the holy places of the Chardham Yatra; this shrine is perfectly located in front of the huge Neelkanth mountain peak. The temple name Badrinath is taken from Badri, means that, the place where berries grow in abundance. With various holy legends and myths associated with this temple, Badrinath Dham holds prevalence in the sacred travel list of the Hindu pilgrims.
