Although few scratches or dents on the Dodge Ram rear bumper do not affect the performance of your pickup truck, a good look enhances the appearance of your ride. That is why it is important to keep them in good shape and ensure they are checked from time to time to spot any problem and repair it. Most drivers ignore such as they term it minor because it is merely a Dodge Ram 1500 bumper. Keeping in mind the costs you used to acquire and fix the bumper, you will not hesitate to take good care of the same. Although some issues like decolorization are beyond your care and control, there are steps you can employ to restore the paint and looks of your dodge ram 1500 rear bumper at your home garage when you follow several steps keenly. As a first timer doing this on your own, this article will guide you to restore your bumper color easily and efficiently.

You need to make some preparations as you set yourself to restore the color of your Dodge pickup ram 1500 plastic cover. Every tool and equipment should be put in an organized and not realizing later in the process that something is missing. The most importantly get the right color you intend to paint the bumper. Get a dry, clean and warm area to work from because of the adhesives and fillers you will be using. They require a certain temperature to seal properly. Borrow a garage to work from if you cannot get such room to work from. You can now proceed to start preparing the bumper for repair.

Preparation:
Start by washing it gently with warm water with soap. Rub using a piece of cloth to clean as you remove all traces of dirt before starting to sand it. Do not be tempted to skip or do fast this step because you could have affected the end results just at the first step. Choose the right detergents and avoid harsh solvents as much as possible. The sanding should be done on a wet surface throughout in even motions to make the entire surface even and smooth. Wash the surface again to remove any shavings or flakes left after sanding before allowing it to dry completely now.

Phase Two Preparation:
This focuses on preparing the surface further and the paint to be applied on the Dodge Ram rear bumper. Using newspapers, isolate the area to be painted over the rest of your truck that requires no painting at all. That is why you need a masking tape too to give you that outline and remove easily once the painting task has been finished without leaving damage of any kind.

Start by applying a primer on the entire Dodge Ram 1500 bumper and allowing it to dry entirely before sanding the surface again. This eliminates the imperfections likely to be found on the surface. Apply the primer and sanding up to four times with each thoroughly drying before sanding.

Painting The Bumper:
You are now set to begin the painting procedure. There are some repetitions in the same way you applied the primer severally. Implement the paint coat in a layer and allow it to dry before sanding the surface gently for up to four times. Ensure the surface dries completely at each coating application to eliminate the tiny flaws that easily go unnoticed. On completion, finish the job by removing the covering papers and applying a rubbing compound in circular motions on the painted surface. Polish away the mixture using a clean cloth get that shiny surface on your freshly painted bumper.

It is a simple process that requires right tools, equipment, enough time and a follow of instructions to details for proper desired results.
