Fresh off the back of the star-studded Golden Globes, excitement is already mounting ahead of the Oscars 2019. After a phenomenal year of change in Hollywood, the most prestigious night in the awards season calendar will no doubt be one to go down in history. Trust us, you won’t want to miss it. The class of 2019 photo has just been released and it's so major.

The Oscars will take place on Sunday 24 February 2019 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Due to the time difference, viewers in the UK will have to wait until 1am on Monday 25 February to watch the ceremony.

After a successful two year run, Jimmy Kimmel was due to be succeeded by comedian and actor Kevin Hart as the official host of this year’s awards ceremony. Hart originally expressed his joy on Instagram: “To be able to join the legendary list of hosts that have graced that stage is unbelievable”. However, he has now announced he's stepping down as host amid a slew of backlash over some old homophobic tweets that were recently unearthed.

Speaking on the matter, he said: "I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year's Oscar's....this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past."

His replacement is still yet to be announced.

Olivia Colman has been tipped for Oscar glory following her win at the Golden Globes over her portrayal of Queen Anne in The Favourite. Bohemian Rhapsody star Rami Malek, who was also recognised for his role as legendary musician Freddie Mercury when he won the award for best actor in a motion picture drama at the Golden Globes, has been tipped to scoop the Oscar equivalent.

The odds of him winning an Oscar have been slashed from 3/1 to just 4/7 – making him clear favourite. Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “It’s looking increasingly likely Rami Malek’s exceptional performance as Freddie will see him pick up yet another Best Actor gong.” Despite missing out to Bohemian Rhapsody for the  best motion picture award, Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga’s film, A Star Is Born, is still tipped to do well on the night.
