Online maths tuition

THE DREADED “R” WORD

We all know the word that sends a shiver down the back of all students, particularly around exam time…REVISION. How much have you done? Have you covered this topic? What does this mean? Did we even learn this?…These are all questions students are constantly faced with from their peers. You’ve got enough on your plate without stressed-out-Sally asking you these questions every five minutes or revision-card-Ryan intimidating you with his hundreds of note cards of a topic you don’t even remember learning.

Exams, results and revision shouldn’t be so heavily weighted on young adults’ minds and be something we fear. While education and good grades are undoubtedly important, this seems to come at a cost in the classroom with over-stressed students and teachers struggling to accommodate to everyone’s needs.

Personal tuition, particularly online tuition, can be a solution to such problem. Revision is a daunting topic but with tuition there is generally more motivation to get it done, and a willingness to learn and improve leads to a more positive outcome. Working with someone in a revision tutor environment is more sociable than shutting yourself in your room trying to work, with distractions all around you. A tutor can ensure you stay focused for your set time and get a solid amount of work done, as well as being able to re-explain things you haven’t yet understood.

Online tuition can also benefit in further ways, not having to travel anywhere to get the work done but simply from your own home; with a laptop and WiFi you’re good to go! The overall entry of GCSEs for all students in the UK in 2016 was over 5 million, expected to have increased this year, so make sure your revision doesn’t take a back-seat as there is lots of competition out there.

THE ADVANTAGES OF TUTORING

With schools accepting more and more students, how do parents know their children are getting the sufficient education and support they need? In a class of thirty or possibly more, shy or slow pupils could find themselves getting left behind and lost. In an increasingly demanding and competitive educational environment, it is imperative that no child feels lost in a classroom. This is particularly important at primary school level because for the rest of our lives we work with what we learned in our early years.

With increasing amounts of children applying for grammar secondary schools, children are constantly required to learn more, be better and succeed. This is not always possible to achieve simply from a classroom environment where a teacher has to accustom to many abilities and students.

As someone who themselves was tutored, I can definitely vouch for the advantages. Getting taught at my own pace, whether this be faster or slower than the traditional classroom speed, I was able to pick up concepts more easily than before. Tutors working one-to-one or with small groups get to know their students personally and can assign work and projects specifically tailored for the individual – whether this be verbally, visually, aurally or kinesthetically. Maths was personally something that never appealed to me in primary school, nor was it something I was good at, but with my tutor it became more of an activity often involving mathematic games and I didn’t even realise I was learning.

I didn’t want to admit it at an early age when maths and I were enemies, but it’s certainly a subject that cannot be ignored. In an ever more competitive world with students vying for the best grades, positions and jobs, my advice is this: make sure you are not left behind.

TEACHING WITH TECHNOLOGY

As we embrace ‘the future’ we are seeing technology being used in so many more walks of life than we could have imagined. From the mundanity of online shopping or self-checkouts, to high-tech passport controls and self-driving cars, rapidly changing technology is everywhere.

The internet is also not to be forgotten here, making dictionaries and all forms of encyclopedias a thing of the past, there is so much the web can teach us and show us whatever we need to know within seconds. No one needs to leave the house anymore as everything can be done from the comfort of your armchair. No one even has to know you’re still in your pajamas at 3pm.

Language learning programmes like Rosetta Stone were amongst the first to take learning to the web. With headphones, a microphone and a language course of your choice, the world became our oyster. Teaching on the web has taken over in so many forms, including YouTube videos explaining concepts, SparkNotes for those who forgot to read a particular book for English and, of course, the infamous Wikipedia. These are all great forms of education the internet has opened up but much like Rosetta Stone, professional tuition over the internet has to be amongst the best.

The reliability of sites such as Wikipedia is questionable and when taking important exams, it’s crucial to ensure the information you’re learning is accurate. Tuition over the web is completely safe, and if unsure, you can always ask for a DBS certificate to reassure you.
