Now Aadhaar Card is Mandatory for Death Registration from October 1

The government is focusing more and more on the importance the usage of Aadhaar card and in a recent move, the government made it mandatory to provide Aadhaar details for the registration of death. As per the information available, the government made Aadhaar mandatory to ensure that there is no fake registration of death.

The new rule is applicable from 1^st October 2017 and the rule is applicable in all states except Jammu and Kashmir, Assam and Meghalaya. For these three states, the dates will be notified later. Initially, the government is being a little liberal with the law and if the family doesn’t know that Aadhaar Number of deceased then the family would have to provide a declaration stating that the deceased did not have any Aadhaar card to best of their knowledge.

The government also made it clear that if the family makes false declaration then the act would be punishable under Aadhaar Act of 2016 and the act would also be punishable under Registration of Birth and Death Act, 1969. Hence, under no circumstances, make any such false declaration which could attract a punishment and a fine.

The main advantage of this aadhaar card update is that it would be easy to identify the deceased and this would also prevent any false registration of death. It has been seen that some people declare false deaths to avail the benefits of insurance or to write off the loans. The rules are being changed to accommodate the new notification announced as per the government.
