NKDA In Kolkata Is New Township

NKDA is the abbreviated form of Newtown Kolkata Development Authority. It is a completely new centre of urbanization which comprises of both the commercial sector as well as residential complex. The Government of West Bengal thought of establishing a new township towards the eastern fringes of the metropolitan city. The Newtown Kolkata Development Authority has been established under the West Bengal Act XXX of 2007 and as a matter of fact a number of civic authorities and amenities began rendering their services which came into effect from November 2008. The West Bengal legislature passed The New Town Kolkata Development Authority Act, 2007 and the assent thereto of the President of India and it was published in the Kolkata Gazette Extraordinary. The Act all together came into effect from end of the year 2006 in the month of December. The whole New Town Kolkata area as described in Schedule-I appended to this Act. The entire township has been divided into thirty four Mouzas (both part and full) which falls under the jurisdiction of three police stations.

The Chairman cum Managing Director of the West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd is the head of the NKDA in Kolkata with the Member of Parliament, Member of Legislative Assembly. District Magistrate and other municipal authorities as its members. The architect has to report to his senior who is an Executive Engineer who in turn is liable to Director or Chief Engineer. There are assistant architects and engineers who are his subordinates. For better functioning of the various tasks, the NKDA has been divided into six different committees which look into different affairs such as Building, accounts, selection of the tenders, works, structural security and safety and Examination of Building Rule of New Town Kolkata Development Authority. Each committee has one chairman whereas there are six members.

When one travels to this part of the city, he really gets wonderstruck by the majestic beauty and greenery of the place and the exotic structure of the building especially the offices of the IT giants. Yes. The sector V of Salt Lake is regarded as the IT hub of Kolkata but there is no doubt that Rajarhat has become an important business centre and IT park of the city as well. The architects have certainly played a crucial and pivotal role in beautifying this part of the area providing every amenity and the facility to the residents. But if you are an architect, then you need to remember that you have to work in full coordination with the apex bodies of the NKDA and cannot construct anything without their prior permission. There are a set of some rules and regulations and one has to abide it.

Before you are making a visit to the office of an architect, there are lists of essentialities which need to follow. The first and foremost is deciding what kind of construction is required. You need to have a detailed discussion with the architect and get the idea on the latest designs and the cost. You would have to finalize your budget as well.
