Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program

This province is the located in the eastern most part of Canada. It is part of the Atlantic region of Canada. While New Found land is an island, Labrador is part of the mainland Canada. 92% of the population of this province lives in Newfoundland. It became part of Canada only in the year 1949. Since then the province has drastically grown economically and culturally. The province started participating in the provincial nominee program in the mid 90s. Through this program, they choose and nominate candidates for Canada Permanent Residency. The chosen candidates should fulfill certain parameters as required by the immigrations in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The province may provide nominations for 1050 candidates annually distributed across three different categories – Skilled worker program, Express Entry Skilled worker or International Graduate program.

While the express entry skilled worker pathway is for all those candidates who are accepted into the Canada Express Entry Pool, the skilled worker program is for those individuals who are already working in the province on a work permit. The international graduate program is for those who have recently obtained their post-graduate certification. It is not necessary that the applicant graduate from the Universities of the Province.

The province is part of the Atlantic Immigration Pilot project which was started in the year 2017. This program was started with an intention to address the skill gaps and labor market needs that the Atlantic Provinces were facing. Through this program, the province invites 442 skilled professionals into the province every year. This program allows employers to bring highly skilled and intermediary professionals into the province.

For 2021, the province has announced new regulations as per which many of the Information technology jobs and jobs in the health-care sector do not need the applicant to fulfill the Job vacancy assessment and Atlantic immigration program Labor market testing. Few of these in-demand occupations are physicians, nurses, psychologists, therapists, software engineers, UX/UI developers, AI developers, mechanical engineers and more.

It will be considerably easier this year to obtain Canada PR through Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP).

This program is straight forward and the whole process would take less than 6 months to complete. Also as per the new regulations, the applicants are allowed to apply for Jobs in a domain unrelated to their field of study.

The province’s economy is enriched by agriculture, forestry, fishing, mining and oil. They have huge reservoirs of mineral resources like iron and copper ore. The province has stable governance and works in close proximity with the federal government of Canada. Post COVID-19, they are in the process of enhancing their pathways to help them recoup the economy. They are currently inviting only those professionals who they think would help them grow economically. Hence it would be required that the applicant provides the right documentation to prove his or her stand.
