New Zealand Travel

by Eric Jones Writer
New Zealand is a picturesque island nation near Australia whose unspoiled vistas have been featured in the fantasy epics Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia, not to mention Whale Rider, which is actually set there and focuses on Maori culture and mythology. Audiences around the world have become exposed to the beauty of New Zealand through the medium of film, and many find themselves wanting to visit as a result. A trip to New Zealand can be a wonderful getaway for an individual or the entire family.

The biggest city in New Zealand is Aukland, so if you want to get a dose of New Zealand's metropolitan culture, this is an excellent place to go. In Aukland, you will be in close proximity to the nation's fabled countryside, but you can also experience the urban excitement of city life. It's an especially interesting place to go if you are interested in sailing, as tens of thousands of people bring their yachts to its waters. In the city itself you have art museums, zoos, sporting arenas, churches and restaurants, among many other destinations. Whatever you could hope to find in a big city you are likely to encounter in Aukland.

Other urban destinations include Wellington, which was the site of the Lord of the Rings premieres, and Christchurch, which is on the South Island and is only slightly smaller in population than Wellington. Known as the Garden City, Christchurch features abundant parkland, while Wellington is a major center for culture in New Zealand. Other cities include Hamilton, Napier-Hastings, Tauranga, Dunedin, Palmerston North, Nelson, Rotorua, New Plymouth and Whangarei.

Of course, much of the appeal of New Zealand lies not in the cities but in the wild countryside where farmers cultivate the rich land and the rest is left to the winds and rains. If you want to explore these areas, you should look into campervan fire New Zealand. With a campervan, you can wander the wilder areas on wheels and park when you need a rest. Campervan hire NZ is the way to go if you want a true taste of the beauty that gives this land such a mythical quality. You can buy maps of various landmarks, both historical and related to cinematic moments, and create a tour for yourselves.

To get the most out of your New Zealand experience, it's best to integrate both city and rural life, getting a taste of each. When you have had sufficient time exploring whatever urban areas you choose, you can really take a deep breath and enjoy the wilderness in a campervan. Be sure to bring your camera; a sojourn in New Zealand is sure to be filled with beautiful memories.
