Narasimha Jayanti 2018: Things To Do

by sunil gavaskar clan member

On Narasimha Jayanti devotees especially Vaishnavs celebrate the birth anniversary of Lord Narasimha, one of the most celebrated and sung avatar of Lord Vishnu. In 2018 it is falling on 28th April, 2018 Saturday.  Lord Narasimha appeared as half-man and half-lion in order to vanquish the demonic King Hiranyakashapu. It is the most auspicious time to fast and absorb yourself in devotional service to the Lord.

According to a legend in the Bhagavad Purana, Prahlada was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. His father Hiranyakashipu was the earthly King who despised Prahlada because he was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu killed the King’s brother, Hiranyaksha.

The King who wanted to be worshiped as God tried getting his own son killed in numerous ways but failed. He then ordered his evil sister Holika to slay him. Holika made an attempt to burn Prahlada but was herself burnt down. Finally, the King asked his son for the proof of God being everywhere. Then all of a sudden Lord Vishnu in His Narasimha avatar emerged out of the columns the King’s palace and killed him!

Things You Can Do On Narasimha Jayanti?

Narasimha Jayanti is the most auspicious to observe Narasimha Jayanti Vratam. People and devotees prefer a single meal on the day prior to Narasimha Jayanti. They do not eat anything of grains and cereals and break the fast the next day of the Jayanti.

Sages describe that Lord Narasimha appeared during the sunset of Chaturdashi. You may take a sankalpa (wish) on this day in the afternoon and perform Narasimha Puja before sunset. After the puja, you can observe Jagran (All-night vigil), singing the songs dedicated to Lord Narasimha and break the fast the next morning.

Apart of Narasimha Puja, you can also worship Goddess Pratyangira Devi who immerged from the Third Eye of Lord Shiva to pacify Lord Narasimha after the death of Hiranyakashapu. She defends a house against black magic, witch craft, diseases and misfortune.

You can use a Narsimha Yantra as it is the most powerful Yantra that contains the mantra of Lord Narasimha. Keep this Yantra in the East portion of the house facing West because East is the sitting place of Sun God and the goddess of fortune Mahalakshmi. It is the most auspicious direction among the rest because it is the direction from where positive energy flow into your house. This Yantra wards away all the dark energies and purify your place all negativities with fortune, peace, prosperity, harmony and health.
