by Bhanvi Kumari All in one business management software

Model United Nations (MUN) conferences are for those who are interested in learning more about the United Nations. Students play the roles of diplomats representing different nations in discussions on a particular agenda topic in the conference. These agendas are issues taken up by the UN for discussion. Conferences sometimes simulate a past scenario too. An estimate shows that more than 400,000 students worldwide participate every year in MUN.

MUN has been there for more than 70 years and it was never monitored by the UN. First time a MUN conference was co-sponsored by the United Nations in August 2000 at the UN Headquarters in New York. Today, the UN has developed some guidelines for conducting MUN. It advice on how students can organize them following the proper procedures and processes.

Delegates are required to do research about their allotted countries, understand their own foreign policy. Research their committee agendum, explore the intricacies of the issue, including the background, history, resolutions passed on it, countries involved, causes, consequences, and more.

Finally, delegates of MUN events in India must research and propose innovative solutions to the problem. The entire discussion goes with formal rules of procedure that require students to step into the shoes of Diplomat.

Participating in MUN can help students develop leadership skills as well as research, writing, public speaking and problem solving skills. The UN now guides organizers MUN towards more realistic simulations by conducting workshops and guidebook.
