Before moving to Florida there are things you should know about your future home state.

The State of Florida

Florida is the 22nd biggest state in US at (65,755 sq mi - 170,304 km2) and 3rd most populous at 20,984,400 inhabitants. It has the longest coastline (1,350 miles - 2,170 km) in the contiguous United States. The peninsula between the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic is occupied by about two-thirds of Florida Having such a large access to the beach influences Florida in many ways. From the lifestyle of its inhabitants to the fact that Florida’s biggest industry is tourism.

Florida’s nickname may be sunshine state, but the harsh weather is known to happen. Central Florida has more lightning strikes than any other place in the country. That’s why its known as the lightning capital of US. Hurricanes pose a big problem in Florida, especially from June 1 up to the November 30. Period knows as hurricane season. But beside the harsh weather, the prevalent climate is humid subtropical with an average daily temperature of 70.7 °F (21.5 °C) making it the warmest state in the U.S.

Where to live in Florida

Choosing where to live in Florida is no easy task. From dynamic and vibrant lifestyle of Miami Beach to the theme parks of Orlando, there are places to suit every lifestyle. Consider your financial and marital situation before you make your decision. Some places offer a lot but are also quite expensive so there will be some pros and cons to weigh out. When you figure out which place looks best, try and live there for a couple of weeks. Researching online gives you an idea about the place, but if you really want to get the feel of the place spends some time there.

People of Florida

Inhabitants of Florida are fairly similar to their countrymen in the rest of the US. The only noticeable difference is the diversity. By being so close to the Latin America and tourism being a huge industry Florida is very much influenced by Latin and European cultures. There are parts of it that are more like north cities of US, but if you like Latin culture you will easily find places that will make you feel right at home.

Moving to Florida

If you have decided to move to Florida, there are some pitfalls you can avoid and smart decisions you can make if you plan wisely.

Packing

When packing, consider Florida’s climate. Don’t carry too many warm clothes. All of the things you pack, you will have to move. And everything that you move adds up to the total cost of the move. So don’t pack unnecessary items. The things you know you will need a pack, the things you know you won’t, don’t. If you are not sure whether you should pack something or not, don’t pack it. Once you have chosen your items carefully sort, label and pack everything. If you have friends helping you, make sure that they are organized and efficient. Have everything planned and every part of the plan explained to your friends in order to avoid unnecessary confusion and stress. You should consider hiring a packing company if you want to avoid rookie mistakes. There are companies that offer both moving and packing services and are worth looking into if you want to save some money.

Moving

When moving, the vital thing to do is to choose your moving company. Yes, you can move on your own, but at a certain distance, it’s just not worth the trouble. A reliable moving company will be your best friend in the time of need. You can try finding a company that is near you, or you can look for top-rated moving companies from Florida. Either way, make sure that they are legitimate companies that have good reviews. There are many hardworking, trustworthy companies, but there are those that are willing to take your stuff and ask for more money if you want to get them back. Be wary of any company that offers an online assessment of moving cost, or offers a considerably lower cost than its competitors. If it’s too good to be true, it probably is. Get at least three assessments to get an idea of what your move will cost you.

Long distance moving to Florida

If you are moving from a different state, be sure to check out what laws differ for your home state and Florida. Long distance relocation to Florida can be a big hassle, and you should try to make it easy on yourself as much as possible. There are certain papers that the movers are required to have when moving from different states, so make sure that everything is in order. Plan every part of the move with your moving company. If it’s going to be a trip that lasts for more than twelve hours, you’ll need to figure out where you will sleep on the road.

Final tips

Try avoiding stress as much as you can. The move itself will be stressful and you need to pace yourself if you want to stay healthy. Remember to get enough sleep and eat the right foods. Avoid caffeine and sugar. Not only will they reduce the quality of your sleep but they will increase your tolerance for them the more you intake. So be sure that they are more of a periodical boost than a habit. Because of Florida’s weather, be sure to carry with you layered clothes in order to easily change. And finally, be sure to enjoy Florida’s sunshine. Have fun!
