Mold On Upholstery: How To Remove It

by Robyna Butera Professional Blogger & Writer

Mold is a type of fungus which is capable to grow virtually anywhere, even on your couch too. Mold infestation is a dangerous sign for your health and couch fabrics, so it is important to remove couch mold infestation quickly. Before using any cleaning solution on your couch, test it on a hidden area for any adverse reactions.

Things Required For Removing Mold From Couch:

  • White vinegar

  • Water

  • Rubbing alcohol

  • Broom

  • Gloves, goggles, and respirator

  • Vacuum with filters

Steps To Remove Mold

  • Wear goggles, gloves, and a respirator to prevent inhaling mold spores. You can get these items at any local hardware store or you can ask from couch dry cleaning services provider.

  • Move the furniture outside and set it in direct sunlight. Sunlight kills the mold and moving the furniture out will prevent the mold to be spread within the house when you clean it.

  • If any mold is visible off the fabric then you can use a broom to sweep it away. But do not sweep at the areas where you are not able to see any mold infestation, as it will only increase the chances of spreading mold spores to those areas.

  • To vacuum the upholstery, use hose with a brush attachment. To prevent mold spores from getting back into the air after vacuum, your vacuum cleaner must have a filter. After you finish vacuuming empty the vacuum canister into a trash bag.

  • If the amount of mold is large then mix mild soap in water to make suds.  Wipe out the suds onto upholstery using a clean cloth and rub it into fabrics. Then you can wipe the area using a damp cloth to rinse.

  • The couch stain removal Brisbane suggest to allow the upholstery exposed to sunlight for several hours.

  • If there is any mold or mold smell is left after all procedures then you need to spot treat the area. Mix equal amounts of water and rubbing alcohol in a sprayer. Spray it on the area of the upholstery having false mold odor.

  • You can also use white vinegar in place of rubbing alcohol to remove the mold smell from your upholstery. Spray the area with a solution of water and white vinegar then let it dry.

  • Rinse all the items like vacuum canister and its attachments, broom, and gloves with white vinegar. But make it sure to rinse white vinegar off from everything afterward. Keep the items exposed to sunlight for a few hours.
