Modern Arab Home Design

by Alhumaidhi Architects Alhumaidhi Architects

As Arab Millennials become home owners, design requests become more unique and iconic than previous generations.

It is to no one’s surprise that different people have different tastes, especially when we look at previous and current generations. As life has become more fast-paced, our need for space and the way we choose our surroundings have changed to accommodate our new lifestyles.

Over the past few years, with more and more Arab millennials deciding to build their own homes, we noticed certain patterns that were unique to their predecessors, while still clinging to the core values that the region holds dear.

Free Flow of Movement

In the modern household, occupants have expanded their networks due to the more outgoing nature of this generation. This resulted in increased movement in and out of the house, with guests often visiting different members of the family. We noticed that modern families are requiring multiple entrances and exits to various sections of the home, to welcome their guests directly to the designated areas without over-stepping on someone else’s space. Most homes are coming equipped with two guest areas “Majlis” as well as a separate entertainment and dining area.

Privacy

Privacy is at the essence of every home. It is a sanctuary where the family goes to relax, enjoy their private space and spend time with their loved ones. This is especially clear in this region, with families preferring to have more modern chic green elegant spaces.

Light and Space

As people started breaking down the walls between each other and be more open to new experiences and cultures, they applied that same mentality to their home design decision. Modern homes are now required to have larger rooms with more natural light to be more environmentally responsible, brighter and healthier for the family.

Adaptability & Timelessness

The structure and design of modern Arabic family homes still draw influence from traditional designs of the region. However, families are looking invest in timeless designs that will stand the test of time. We achieve this by utilizing space that can then be re-used and adapted as technology and requirements change.

Technology and Automation

We now live in a connected era, where most devices work together to ensure a seamless experience, whether it’s at home, the office, or outdoors. We design homes while keeping in mind that every piece of tech around the house will be speaking to the other, enabling the family to not only control and manage all the functions of the house but to feel as though the house flows with them as they move around.
