Mobile App Development and Internet of Things (IoT)

by John Stewart Mobile Apps Development

Internet of Things is a buzzing trend these days. And now with mobile application development, the technology of IoT is becoming more popular and convenient. Its impact will more visible at domestic and business fronts in near future. The IoT or Internet of Things is all about connecting various devices, gadgets and appliances to the internet. Rising adoption of smartphones and apps are also making IoT more popular. Experts say that at least 25 billion devices will connect with internet via IOT by 2020.

There are immense scopes available in IoT. From Air conditioner to refrigerator to coffeemaker in someone’s home; to machines to vehicles to warehouse in a factory – they all will be connected with internet. For now, we already have connected cars, watches, glasses, and various other equipments.

Connected devices are able to exchange data and use it practically in real time. By IoT powerful network can be connected among various things so that nothing turns out to be inaccessible or uncontrollable. The data of various devices is exchanged between sensors and system in devices. These sensors may include temperature sensors, biometric device, motion sensors, BLE device, flow meters, etc.

With smartphones, the concept of Internet of Things looks more practical as users can carry their smartphones wherever they go and access high-speed internet too. Unlike desktops or laptops which are bulky computing devices, smartphones and tablets are much lighter and can easily be carried in hands or pocket.

Let’s take an example of Internet of Things. You are going to home after finishing work. It is summer and you want complete sooth and relax upon entering the home. But when you will reach there and switch on AC, it will take 10-20 minutes in conditioning. Now if the AC is connected to your mobile through the IoT technology, you can switch it on while you are on the road. If the app controlling AC’s functioning also detects your location, it can automatically speed up cooling as per your distance from home. So a lot can be done if your AC is connected with your mobile through IoT.

Take the example of an IoT connected ECG monitoring machines that sends the readings to the concerned doctor who can keep an eye over heart rate of patients even if he or she is away from them.

Businesses in retailing and aviation are already implementing Bluetooth enabled low energy devices called beacons to improve the experience and engagement of their customers.

Business Benefits for Implementing IoT

IoT is a big shift for a business. When it’s implemented to a business, whether internally or externally, a lot of benefits appear at surface. Cost reduction and revenue improvement are major advantages. A dedicated mobile application development brings a lot of control over things and gives them in the hands of employees.
