Micronized Powders for Coatings and Inks

by Aiden Goh Author

With the growth of the coating and ink industry rapidly, micronized powders are used more often to modify the surface. It has frequent usage and thus is becoming so famous for everyday use. It increases the surface’s resistance to scratch and rubs, reduces the chances of slips and controls matting effects Since synthetic waxes are not sustainable and to shift towards more eco-friendly solutions; micronized waxes are being used widely. The added advantage is that they can be made from the renewable source of energy and performs much well when compared to standard waxes available in the market. The dream to serve customers with something sustainable is fulfilled without even negating the performance benefits. Here is a list of reasons as to why micronized waxes have an ad-on advantage.

  1. Micronized powder makes the powder coating formulations, and the water-based solvents perform much better than usual times. These waxes can be used to improve the quality of ink properties and coating.

  2. The mentioned micronized wax decreases the gloss in a different system. The added advantage is that it will not raise the viscosity and will not settle out quickly.

  3. It is a great benefit to the powder coating system if the wax is being used. It can be assured that it will disperse more evenly than block wax or pellets. You can simply add them to the premix before extrusion or can add it in the later part of the process as required.

  4. In printing ink applications, it is more based on sustainable raw products. The polymer can be ground quickly, and therefore the particle size can be minimum as 5um. It is any day a finer product of the renewable category.

  5. You can quickly reduce the dosage of the micronized waxes as you can do it with other standard waxes in the market. Therefore it is robust yet flexible, and since it has the characteristics of polymeric, it becomes an exceptional rub resistance which is very powerful for the ink systems.

  6. The products are yet to perform well if the waxes are to be mixed with the starch, which is also a renewable additive and can be used in the coating industry. If combined well and followed the appropriate process, it increases the scratch resistance power and lowers the rate of friction.

  7. It is incredibly smooth and is efficient in matting. It helps the manufacturer to produce sustainable coatings which will last longer and without compromising with the quality at large.

  8. Also, micronized waxes are formulated in such a way that it can have the anti-slip effect when it comes to water-based polyurethane lacquer. Apart from that, it provides a smooth texture to the wooden products and also on an untreated wooden surface.

If you are an entrepreneur looking for the perfect sustainable product to suit your purpose, here is your choice. But make sure you undergo a research and detailed study about what it is and what are the different types and usage to serve your purpose right.
