Body and design:

Micromax has a reputation of playing it safe when it comes to designs and it has kept its reputation alive by leaving the design of the Micromax A88 canvas music similar to much to its ancestors.  It has a great sturdy plastic body with matte finish on the back panel for superior grip. Chrome linings on the edges add to the beauty of the plain design.  The elementary proportions of the body help you to use the set with one hand only leaving the bulgy phones behind the track. It comes in with three backlit capacitive navigation touch keys that are home, back and options. The audio jack of 3.5 mm and the micro USB sits at the top of the model. The volume rockers are placed on the placed on the left side panel and the power/lock button on the right. It is very light only weighing in at 136gms.

Display:

Featuring a 4.5 inch with a pixilation of 480x854, it makes up for a good display. It has sharp images and texts and better viewing angles than its ancestor models in the markets like the canvas 3D. The readability factor also wither‘s at the edges on text. The visibility in the sun is just about fine as the sensor for adjusting the brightness is absent.

Music and multimedia:

As the name suggests that the sole purpose for launching it into the market was to engulf music enthusiasts by a storm. The phone comes sheaved with a free JBL headset which has a market price of Rs 1500-2000. It is a spectacular headset with comfy ear cups and cushioning for the head which results in prolonged hours of usage without any discomfort.  The sound quality is exceptional with a 40mm drivers installed in it. It sports the M!live app which lets you download free music with a humungous collection of 3 lakh songs to choose from a range of Bollywood and regional songs. The music player has a new touch to it but runs on the same jelly bean player. People prevailing in loud and noisy conditions can make good use of the phone as the rear speakers are audible in such conditions as well. You can install a Mx player and you are set to play all types of files like AVI, MKV which cannot be played by the stock music player. The phone can play 720p files easily which is a characteristic feature of a great multimedia device to precise in words.

Camera:

It comes with a 5 megapixel camera placed at the rear with a powerful LED flash. Images taken are sharp and crisp in the daylight and have bit of digital noise while clicking at night time. The powerful flash will make sure that every picture has enough brightness in it but sometimes its dose is higher that needed which makes the exposure just above the bar. For some reason they have left out the famous panorama mode but instead they have replaced with extravagant features like face beauty, HDR and burst mode. Self clickers can relish the self timer extending to ten seconds. Moreover you can go for a self optimized picture by modifying the exposure settings for a great snap. A VGA camera in front portion will make sure that you are able to do video chats and click selfies as well.

Performance and battery life:

It comes with an 1800mAh battery which will do well in the backup test. It survives the full day with no need of connecting it to the power chord once also.  The test includes milestones like surfing the internet, checking mails, listening to music, answering calls with medium usage and doing watsapp chats on a regular interval. Which I think is included in a person’s daily schedule so the phone will do quite good in this section.

The phone is powered by a 1 Ghz dual-core Mediatek mt6577 processor paired along with power SGX531 GPU. It has 512Mb ram which would not allow you to do multi tasking easily. You can only use 1.92 GB from the 4 GB internal storage allotted to the phone however you can expand the memory up to a sky high 32GB through the microSD card present above the battery slot.

Verdict:

It is a great option for a cool multimedia phone with the jaw dropping offer of JBL headphones bundled in the kit. Yes there are a few loopholes like the slow multi tasking experience or the screen which is finger print magnet but the multimedia accessibility apps overshadows all the cons on the phone.
