Measuring the Significance of Corporate Training

by John Richards Operation Executive
India’s recent growth has a long way to go still. If we want to realize the dream of making India an economic superpower, training and development is of vital importance. We in India have an enormous advantage of age and have more than enough man power available. But when it comes to quality of the available man power, we hear shortage of it everywhere.

Over the years, a lot has been discussed about institute-industry interface and it all started happening with few good initiatives of a few handful organizations, institutes and government but the result of these initiatives is still far. Though this is a long-term solution, yet the problem of quality man power is both short and long-term.

The role of corporate training and development in the long term is important. In the presence of adequate training and development, India is not being able to sustain its growth. The problem becomes even more threatening when we keep the fact that what we have been seeing all this while is just the beginning. The major and all-round growth is yet to come. The good part is that corporate India has been echoing about it.

In the corporate training field, it is not just enough to stand in front of the trainees and tell them the information that they need to know and leave the rest in their hands. Actually, corporate trainers need to look for the best and the most effective way to impart information. Combined problems like tension, lack of motivation, the corporate trainer or the environment, are all the issues that could thwart staff training efforts. Another important aspect is to know different styles and being able to tell which students will benefit from which styles.

Employees need to be drawn to a business with a clean and clear corporate training scheme simply like a bee to a honey. This is simply because of the benefits that are offered to them. They too like it because of the fact that they will acquire new skills and grow within their position and this might hopefully lead on to promotions in the future. It is important that people on every level go through training.

Consider the fact that institutes are not able to produce man power and the majority available are unemployable but companies are still forced to hire them and take them on board to survive. Therefore, an organization without effective training and development is more like a living being without a low par performance.
