May 4th, 2019 North Port, Fl. Walkathon Will Raise Money for Rescued Dogs

North Port, Florida. The Rescue Garage of North Port is inviting dog loving locals to participate in the Rescue Garage Walkathon on Saturday, May 4th, 2019. The event will be held from 9 AM to 12 PM EST at The Shoppes at Price Crossing, 1080 West Price Blvd, North Port, FL, 34286 (Christian Brothers Automotive)

The event will be a morning of fun, food, music and more, including a 1-mile walk to raise money to cover the expenses of caring for rescued dogs taken in by the Rescue Garage. The walkathon is hosted by Christian Brothers Automotive.

The Rescue Garage is a 501(c) (3) organization founded by Silvia McCoy. Its mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, retrain, and rehome vulnerable and at-risk dogs. It provides educational tools and support, community outreach programs, and advocates on behalf of stable pet ownership and animal welfare issues.

“Our work to provide temporary homes, medical care, and long-term homes for our rescues has grown significantly in the past two years. We’re looking for financial support to help cover medical and care expenses and a few volunteers with a passion to help our rescues”, said Ms. McCoy.

The event features the Rescue Garage Walkathon along with a “May The 4th Be With You” Star Wars themed 10K and 5K timed road race, to support the Florida Compassion Foundation. It’s organized by Race Directors Tracy and Kim Hussey of My Favorite Race Events LLC.

The Walkathon is open to anyone who cares about the well-being of homeless rescue dogs in the area, many of them previously scheduled for euthanasia. Individuals, families and well-behaved dogs are welcome to enjoy the fun, food, music, and warm Florida sunshine, and participate in the fund raiser as much as they’d like.

“We’re so grateful for how this community has embraced our mission, and for the support of our sponsors. We’re hoping people come out on May 4th, support a good cause, and have a great time”, added Ms. McCoy.

Admission to the Walkathon and activities is free with a minimum $25.00 pledge. But Rescue Garage dogs are hoping people raise more!

Family members that do not want to walk but wish to participate in the food and activities can be included for just $10 (wristbands available on the registration link).
